With the development of the society and the living condition, people become more and more concerned with the art. So there is a controversy whether the artist or the critic gives society something of the lasting value. As the speaker asserts, the artist gives the society something of lasting value, not the artist. But in my opinion, I think the lasting value not only derives from the art, but also it has something relative with the critic.

To begin with, admittedly, it is the art gives the society the lasting value, without the art there is noting about the lasting value. For one thing, the art gives the aesthesis of the world to the people and inspires the sprit of the people. For example, the great painting Mona Lisa of the Vinci, which depicts a smiling lady on the picture, gives everyone a beautiful imagine. For another, the art which can help people to understand something in the heat of the world. The painting of Vago is a good case, the picture exposures the corruption of the society, but common people did not what Vago wanted to say. Therefore the art plays an important role in the society lasting value.

However, the critics also affect the lasting value of society. Without the critics, many invaluable thing can not be appreciated and understand well. Firstly, the critics help the people to understand a art work in a sense and to appreciate a work from other angles. In addition, beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, not the artists. The same work has the different of value to different people. For instance, many people collect the postcards and the stamps when they are children, the every postcard or stamp has the different mean to them. So the critics also are related with the lasting value of the society.

We must concede that the critics also have some reverse effects on the art. While the art needs to reform, the critics may prevent the art from reforming, or many politics may take advantage of the critics to prevent the art. For example, when the Mark Twain criticizes the government of corroding, but on the reverse, the government takes the critics to attack the Mark Twain. So the critic may have the negative effects on the lasting value of the society.

To sum up, I agree that it is the artists who create art works including those invaluable ones. However, without critics, something of lasting value cannot be revealed to us and may be lost in history. So when we appreciate artists for their contribution to our society, we must not overlook the function of critics.

We must concede that the critics also have some reverse effects on the art.
