36 "The greatness of individuals can be decided only by those who live after them, not by their contemporaries."
36． 只有后来人评价以前的人，而不应该同时代的人相互评价。
Position: 后代人的评价更为完整全面客观，但当代人的评价也是也是需要的。
1． On the one hand, 由于社会思想落后于某些人的成就，或许他们的成就需要近一步的去证实，很多杰出的人没有被他同时代的人所承认。//Bruno, Von Gogh
It is true that many great individuals can not be decided by their contemporaries.
In art, artists’ values usually show up after several years.
In politics, powerful individuals were not easy to be decided. They have power to protect themselves and many facts are enveloped.
2． On the other hand 同时有些人的成就很快就得到了人们的肯定，Einstein的相对论，the theory of relative.  Beethoven, Mr. Yuan Long ping.
3． 随着社会的发展，思想越来越自由，实验设备越来越先进，彼此间的交流越来越多，伟人的思想越来越快的得到了人们的承认。
4． Conclusion: 伟人们不仅需要后代人的评价，当代人的评价也是必须的。

Should the greatness of individuals be decided only by those who live after them, not by their contemporaries, as the speaker assert? In a sense, I tend to agree that some great individuals can not be decided because they usually go beyond of their times. How ever, the speaker begs question by overlooking the crucial role of the contemporaries and unfairly give them a second priority. In my point of view, both the decision by those who live after them and by their contemporaries are critical to our society's well-being and development, and an all-sided consideration is needed when deciding the precedence.

On the one hand, it is true that many great individuals can not be decided by their contemporaries because they usually go beyond of their times. In art, artists' values show up after several years. Take one of the greatest painters Von Gogh for example, his paintings was not decided by his contemporaries and most people did not admit the value of the painting. But after one hundred year, the value of the painter was decided by those who live after him and we considered that Von Gogh was one of the greatest artists in our society. Another case in point is the Bruno, he was a great ancient scientist, for example, proposed the sun-center theory which conflict by the earth-center theory rooting in people's mind.  His theory was considered unreasonable and he was sentenced to death. Therefore, the contribution of these great individuals was conspicuous, but their contemporaries can not realize the achievement due some reasons.

On the other hand, some of the great individual was decided because their achievement was admitted by their contemporaries. For example, the great scientist Einstein, in the early of the 19th, he found the theory of relative, most people could not understand the theory, but with development of the science and the technology, the theory was accepted by most people and was proved by the facts. Bill Gates, the richest man in the world, produced the windows operation system and office software which are familiar with us. The same true of the distinguished agriculturist Mr. Yuan Long ping, who succeed found the new method of growing rice. Form the cases above on, the great individuals can be decided by their contemporaries.

With the development of society, the thinking of the human is more and more opening, and the implement of the laboratory is more and more useful. The people converse with each other in any time. Therefore the great individual can be decided by their contemporaries.  

To sum up, it is important to give the right evaluation of the great individuals by those who live after them; they also need the evaluation of their contemporaries.
