Has the video camera become a more important form of documentation than written records? The author says yes in that it provides such an accurate and convincing record of contemporary life. Though I can not overlook the video camera's influence to contemporary documentation methods, I still concede that it pales in comparison to written records.

In such a digital world, video camera plays as a high-tech role in contemporary society, influencing our life to a broad extent. The convenience, accuracy, activity it provides for us convince people to acknowledge its effort. As we know, people thank scientists for bringing in camera for us to document individual's portray, the world history with accurate pictures. Without camera's convenience for schlepping, less astonishing photos in World War 2 would remain in the world to arouse the longing for peace in people's soul. More hi-tech than camera, the video camera brings about active pictures for us with more astonishing impression. Further, it has been utilized in special science fields such as space technology, which can document the change on the earth in each second. So the video camera's devotion to the contemporary world should not be neglected.

However, it is also a high-cost facility to possess which render it with limited popularity. Maybe the video camera is a popular facility in developed country, but it is truly unpopular in undeveloped country. It is doubted that Africans can afford the expensive cost to convey their poverty and famine to the world. Then though the video camera can be afforded in developing country in science, politics, media and so forth, it is hard to be prevalent in common families. On the contrary, the documentation for ordinary people is absolutely necessary which was categorized as "folk culture". And in these cases, some low-cost products such as papers and pens can be widely used for documentation.

Moreover, high-tech products always face the problem of fading away in the time splitting. For example, walkman was a common set decades of years ago, but now, when it pales in comporison with mp3, cd walkman and so on, old tapes gradually were eliminated in out life. Similarly, video tapes will probably disappear from the earth. Even though some rare documentation will still remain, the same as long-playing phonograph record which can only be played on expensive phonographs, the video record will fade away from our eyes finally. Nonetheless, though it is hard to understand some ancient languages, most of the written records which have been preserved for thousands of years can be read by nowaday people. Furthermore, the culture merit of written records such as rhythm in poems, artist conception in calligraphy and so on can not be replaced by video records.

To sum up, it is not sagacious to draw the conclusion that the video camera is more important for documentation than written records though its influence can not be overlooked.
