TOPIC: ARGUMENT17 - The following appeared in a letter to the editor of the Walnut Grove town newspaper.
限时失败,没有摸版,自己想一句写一句.语言就不要职责了,就高中那一点老底子.希望在结构深度和写作注意事项上提写意见.感谢了!!~
"Walnut Grove's town council has advocated switching from EZ Disposal (which has had the contract for trash collection services in Walnut Grove for the past ten years) to ABC Waste, because EZ recently raised its monthly fee from $2,000 to $2,500 a month, whereas ABC's fee is still $2,000. But the town council is mistaken; we should continue using EZ. EZ collects trash twice a week, while ABC collects only once. Moreover, EZ-which, like ABC, currently has a fleet of 20 trucks-has ordered additional trucks. Finally, EZ provides exceptional service: 80 percent of respondents to last year's town survey agreed that they were 'satisfied' with EZ's performance."

The conclusion that Walnut Grove(WG)'s town council (TC) is wrong to switch from EZ Disposal(ED) to ABC Waste (ABC) begs the questions in several respects. I will discuss each of them below.

First, the argument assumes that the reason in which the TC advocated switching from ED to ABC has something to do with the monthly fees. However, the arguer provides no evidence to support his assumption. It is entire possible that the higher fees of ABC is due to they adopted some new technical helping to protect environment and then TC take it for granted that  protecting environment is important than paying for more money. Without sufficient evidence to support the assumption that TC' s decision lies on the fees of ED and ABC,I can not accept any conclusion basis on them.

In addition, the conclusion that ED will provide better services than ABC relies on two doubtful assumptions that the trucks will arrive in a short time and that the trucks are designed for collection in WG. However, the argument fails to provide any information about when the trucks will arrive and when they willed be used. Even assuming these trucks will be used at once, the fact that ED ordered additional trucks does not necessarily means that the trucks will be used for the collection in Walnut Grove. It is equally possible that they are designed to used for enlarge ED's market in other areas. In sum, lacking evidence, the conclusion can not convince us.

Last but not least, the results of survey are questionable. To support the conclusion that ED provides exceptional service, the survey's sample must sufficient in size and be representative of the overall residents in this area. However, the author fails to provide any information about the number of people participated or the number of respondents. In addition, the fact that the most of the respondents were ‘satisfied’ with ED does not necessarily indicates that ED is better, it is entire possible that the ABC were considered ‘excellent’ or ‘very satisfied’. In sum, until the argument provides sufficient evidence to support the results of the survey, he can not draw any conclusion upon it.

To sum up, the conclusion lacks credibility because the evidence cited in the analysis does not lend strong support to what the arguer maintains. To strengthen the argument, the arguer would have to provide more evidence concerning on the reason why TC advocated switching from ED to ABC. To better evaluate the argument, I would need more information about the survey.
