What is the primary goal of technological advancement? In my opinion, although technology is developed based on the conception of increase people's efficiency so that the living conditions of people can be improved, yet it provides people with no more leisure time than people used to have.

To begin with, I strongly agree with the statement that technological advancement is aimed to enhance people's efficiency. To support this argument, one has to look no much further than a computer. With the accelerated development of integrated circuits and high insight in designing, modern technology provides us much lighter and more convenience portable personable computers, upon which comes the development of the Internet. These two products of technology respectively and jointly provide us with more effective means and approaches to attain our goals or accomplish our work. Today, it is more usual for a person to sent E-mails to friends or relatives than to keep in touch with friends in written letters. And, wherever a person goes, providing there is related signal or wave, the person can communicate with others by a cell phone, which is more efficiency than taking a visit to others for communication.

With all these benefits technological advancement brings us, the main result, in my point of view, is that they better our daily life as well as the society as a whole. To justify this assertion, one has only to consider the food one has for dinner and the nutrition one absorbs. In the past, agriculture mainly depends on the effort of farmers and gardeners. However, all sorts of machines have been devised and manufactured to help farmers with their work. Moreover, some kinds of food, especially fruits are available all over the whole year, which is almost impossible in the past. Besides, scientists, with the help of advanced instrument and apparatus, have discovered the scientific way to keep healthy and figure main by attaining certain sorts of food which contains the necessary nutrition regularly. In a word, what advanced technology presents is not more free time as the speaker asserts, which I will state below, but the media for us to enhance our living standard.

Notwithstanding with the benefits technology brings us, the consequence of the development fails to provide people with more leisure time. Turning back to the examples of computers and the Internet, how many of us are bombarded
by all kinds of unfiltered information everyday? Plumping in the sea of information, amazed at pieces of information which might be trashy and unmeaningful, we rarely have enough time to get out and keep physically touch with people around us. Moreover, in order to afford these products of technology, some of us have to spend more time working or moonlighting, thus they have less spare time to relax and enjoy themselves. Besides, being occupied with the up-to-date technology, more and more people are getting trapped with the circumstances of having less and less leisure time to themselves and beloved ones.

To sum up, technological advancement does increase people's effectiveness in work, study, or daily life; however, though these modern products has greatly improved our life, modern technology leaves no more leisure time to us, but occupy our spare time, which otherwise could be used to focus on more important items.
