In this memo, the author concludes that dentists who advertise to attract patients should target the male consumer and emphasize both the effectiveness of their anesthetic techniques and the sensitivity of their staff to nervous of suffering patients. To support the conclusion the author cites an evidence that three times more men than women faint while visiting the dentist. The author also presents that the evidence suggests that men are more likely to be distressed about having dental work done than women are. However, in this argument the conclusion is based on a series of unsubstantiated assumption.

First, lacking some necessary information that lead to the result of the study is unbelievable. In the study the author only shows that three times more men than women faint while visiting the dentist, but how many men and women are counted in this study? The author does not mention. It is possible that if there is only one woman who have been treated by the dentist and she faint, in the same time 100 men who were also been treated by the same dentist but only 3 men fainted. The assumption I give shows that it is easier for women faint while she is visiting the dentist but men. So the result is unbelievable without the number of men and women.

Second, the dental work does little indicate that a patient faint while visiting. Even though many men faint while visiting the dentist, is that to say all of the faint are coursed by the dentist? Simple answer, no. There are some other reasons that may lead to faint when one is in dentist.  Perhaps, the days before the man visit the dentist, he have a over load work and less sleep than common people, it is possible that he will faint when he feels a deep pain on his tooth. So the author has no evidence to make relationship between faint and the dentist work.

Third, the solution to the problem is not necessary and there is some other way to do with the problem. Even if the faint is coursed by the nervous in dentist room, the author have no evidence to say that if the dentist advertise to attract patients should target the male consumer and emphasize both the effectiveness of their anesthetic techniques and the sensitivity of their staff to nervous or suffering patients, it will bring more patient to dentist. Because the advertisement does little use on the fairness of male patients, the men will also faint during the treatment. So the conclusion is not a perfect way to solve the problem.

In sum, lacking creditable assumption and necessary evidence in the argument, the author fail to well support the conclusion. To strengthen the conclusion, the author should show more information about the amount of men and women in the study to make the result more believable. The author should show more evidence that the faint of patients are coursed by the nervous atmosphere of the dentist. Also, the author should take more reasonable ideas to solve the problem.
