TOPIC: ISSUE28 - "Students should memorize facts only after they have studied the ideas, trends, and concepts that help explain those facts. Students who have learned only facts have learned very little."

I fundamentally agree the statement that students should memorize facts after they have studied the basic ideas , trends and concepts which totally are behind the facts. Besides, we could not ignore the facts from the real world ,for the practice, life and society will feed back the spark of truth to propel our knowledge in the future .
First of all, it is fairy important to study the basic concepts , the trend and ideas ,which will remarkably light up your mind to understand the facts of this world and tell you how the everything in this real world works. Significantly , it is really essential for you before you memorize the facts without any insightful thinking or exact knowledge. Without the economics theory since Adam Smith , how could the students tell the difference of the influence on the nation between the soar of price and the drop of price. Without the
Moreover, studying the ideas , trends and concepts before your memeorizing of facts will absolutely have a positive effect on you study further in this field ,even you make more researches and innovations for it, which is a mission impossible if you just memorize the facts. Further more, what the education emphasize is to teach the students question the current theory and knowledge, which is a original engine for the academy. According , analytical thinking and rational deducing are really essential for students , which might be gained by students when they study the theory before they memorize the facts.
On the other hand, not only studying the theories ,ideas and concepts in advance, but also memorizing the facts should we focus on , when we are learning the new things. Students in no way get the true meanings and have the real insights without the actual experiences. Besides, we might find the fallacies or disadvantage of the current theories or ideas, when we get the feedback from the real world after we take the theory into reality. Phelps ,the 2006 Nobel Prize Laureate on Economics, made his great contributions to the "Philips Curve" in the Economics, according to the conflicts of the theory in the real world in 1980s-1990s,which is a common story in the academic world.
To sum up, it is quite reasonable for us to claim that only after our students have studied the ideas , trends , and concepts should they memorize the facts, not only because it is more easier for the students to learn the theories and memorize the facts , but also it will totally promote the students' analytical thinking, rational deducing and critical thinking. If we really make it , rather than the students just fight with the papers and exams, our students will become a well-rounded man/woman in our society ,to build a more glorious and splendid future .
