Issue10
I agree the speaker that government should support major cities in economic for the prevention of the nation's culture. Nevertheless, it is also important to help the rural area in economic for both saving the losing traditional culture and keeping the social on balance--a potential factor influence the future of a nation's traditional culture.
The speaker's assumption that the government should pay more in major cities to preserve the country's tradition bases on two assumptions as listed below. First, major cities always have existed for longer time to contain more heritages and be the centre for economic, politics, art, science, education, and culture. Such as the capital of People's Republic of China--Beijing is a typical city of this kind, as we know it initially settled more than 2000 years ago and exists as a capital for more than 700 years, now is the centre of the politics, economic, art, education, and culture. So Beijing's existence and development must create a better environment to let these elements preserved and generated. Second, a nation's culture is come from refined history of the country, so in some degree if a country loses its culture it loses its spirit as a whole. So culture is important for a nation and also for the government--the leader and manager of the country and some money spend on this is necessary.
Having recognized the importance of supporting major cities is necessary, but it is not the best method to support major cities for preserved the culture with too much money. First, as the world developing, the globalization and homogenized become more and more significant especially in big cities, so the major cities no longer take the important role in preserve a nation culture as it is before. I have gone to many major cities in China, when I walk along the flourishing streets I see KFC but not traditional snack, I see coffee room but not teahouse, and I see high building but not traditional-style house but in smaller cities all these traditional things can be seen.
Second, as we know government has the responsible to keep our society stable and healthy and lead citizens to a beautiful future. During this process, the culture of a nation as a country's soul is important but not the whole, other important things also have to be solved by government and need economical support, such as crime, unemployment, hungry, poverty and so on. And if big cities get too much money, the small ones must can only get a small amount of money, that can lead the survive problem for the rural population and so lead the population shift to major cities and this can lead more unemployment and create potential unstable factor for the society.
In sum, government should give major cities economic support for the preservation and generation of culture. Nevertheless, culture is not the whole, it is also important to pay attention on other problems, and to keep the balance of every elements of the society.
