In order to succeed in any realm of life,no matter in the realm of academic,social or business,is a practical point of view the only way for one to take?Some assert so.However,in my opinion,whether pragmatism or idealism is the relatively more important way to succeed depends on the way we define "success".

If by success,we mean personal career successes in finance and social status,instead of making great influence to society and the human history,I concede that the pragmatism is the most efficient way to succeed.In the realm of academic,through choosing a discipline which are more society-needing can help one earn a reasonable incoming to live a comfortable life.In the realm of society,what the politicians must concerned most is how to tackle the immidite exigent problems,which can stablize the society and in turn guarantee the powerful position of the politicians.In the realm of business,pragmatism is also the most efficient way to acquire success.The principles such as "Getting the job done",paying attention to the "bottom line" have guarantee myriads of enterprisers wealth and social respect.

However,if we mean "success" the great contribution of one to society and the human history,it is idealists,insteand of pragmatists,who are easier to achieve success.Think about plato,who are honered by people even thousands of years after him due to his ideal world and philosophy system of spiritualism.in the realm of social politics,a lot of famous idealists are easily recounted by people,like Mahatma Gandhi,or Martine Luther king,without their pursuits of idealism,the India may still be gorvened by the queen of Britan and the African Americans may still have to sit in the back of the buses.Cases are the same when it comes to the realm of business,One conspicuous example is the Microsoft's president Bill gates.Due to his ideal supposition of a world of personal computers,he have built up the world's richest company,which not only cause him to be the richest man in the world but also bring the American economy out from the doleful period in the 70s to a prosperous economical and technological economy.

Nevertheless,pragmatism guarantees survival.Between a cup of warm milk and a chance to enter a zoo park,one little yet starven begger would definetly choose the former.Few students will choose to learn a major which can't guarantee him/her a job to survive.Politicians must first take pragmatic policies to satisfy the commonpeople's basic needs to guarantee their positions,then take the idealistic way to highten their social and historical status.Not every bussiness man has an creative idea which is enough to change the bussiness world,most of them are just accommodate to the priciples of the contemporary business world and make profits as much as possible.

Therefore,in my view,pragmatism can guarantee one common personal success while idealism guarantee one great success to the society and history.However,since the Pragmatic behavior guarantees survival,One should first use pragmatism to survive in his field,then inspect himself in order to choose the pragmatic or the idealistic way to obtain success.After all,people who have creative idea which are enough to change the world of society and history are few.In the way to success,most people have to choose the way of pragmatism.
