How to improve the quality of instruction at the college and university level? The speaker asserts that all faculty should be required to spend time working outside the academic world in professions relevant to the courses they teach. Admittedly, working outside the academic field in professions relevant to the courses they teach is of great help to improve the quality of instruction. By this way the teachers would understand the knowledge of their academic field more deeply. In this respect, they can make the classes more vivid and give students more details to understand the obstruseabstruse book knowledge. Accordingly, on no one would deny this requirement would be helpful to students and the instruction.
At the same time stands another essential suggestion that is require all faculty to improve themseves's quality of themselves as teachers. Thus, the teachers shoudshould keep learning all the time. If they fail to do so, how can they require students to study hard? Some people might argue that, when it comes to the teaching, the teachers’ most important task is to superintend students how to learn by themselves. However, in my view, there would be a great stimulant to the students, if their teachers are so excellent.
Besides, it is foundamentlyfundamentally importance for colleges and universities to provide chances for the students to practice what they learn in the class. In the procedure of putting knowledge into practice, what the students would gain is much more than what they learn in class. And when they graduate, it is easier for them to adapt to the job quickly. A professor in China University of Geoscience ever said (and I paragraphed):" The successful education is not only teach students knowledge but also provide a circumstance to them to fulfill the knowledeknowledge. Thus we should encourgeencourage students to go the outside to practice what they learn in class, which is beneficial for them but also beneficial for our country." Consequently, we should overlook the key role played by practice towards students.
Moreover, an environment where students can communicate with others including expertsers also assumes an important role in the education of college and university level. Common sense informs that different people often have different opinions when they look at one thing. Accordingly, during the process of communication, the students would change their views, which is aan efficient way for them to understand the knowledge more completely.
Last but not least, students should be encouraged to study the related-field knowledge-a way is especially important nowadays as the disciplines are more complicated than before. Take the students of economics for example. If they try to learn more mathematics, it would be rather useful for them to do innovative work with the mathematics as a tool to do quantitive analysis. Also, knowing more would help them to live more convinentlyconveniently and work more possible to get achievement.
To sum up, from what have been discussed above, we may safely draw a conclusion is that meathodsmethods useful to improve the quality of intruction at the college and university level are so many, I cannot numerate them all here, including requiring the faculty to work outside the academic world in professions relevant to the courses they teach. However, the education's goal is to cultivate qualified students. In this respect, what is of great help to fulfill this goal, what should be invited to serve students.
