题目:ARGUMENT199 - There is a general idea that waiters and waitresses are more likely to receive larger gratuities from large groups of people. A recent research study suggests this is not true. The researchers examined the relationship between the size of tips in restaurants and the number of meals charged on the bill. They found that, while most tips were around 15 percent, the minimum percentage considered appropriate, people dining alone tipped consistently more (19 percent) and those dining in groups of four or more tipped considerably less (13 percent) than this 15 percent standard. These results strongly suggest that people dining in a group are less likely to feel personally responsible for leaving an adequate or generous tip.

In this argument, the arguer concludes that people dining in a group are less likely to feel personally responsible for leaving an adequate or generous tip.
To support the conclusion, the arguer point out that people dining alone tipped consistently more(19 percent) and those dining in groups of four or more tipped considerably less(13 percent) than this 15 percent standard. In addition, the arguer reasons that most tips were around 15 percent, the minimum percentage considered appropriate. The argument suffers from several critical fallacies.
In the first place, the recent research study needs to be doubted. The sample of the survey conducted by the researcher is vague, we are told nothing about the way the study was conducted and how well it represented the public opinions. The data of the research is unconvincing, maybe the researchers have taken an Insufficient sample, and the number of the restaurants involved in this research may be too small to convincing us, so It is recommanded that more information be offered to us.
In the second place, the arguer  simply assumes that 15 percent is the minimum percentage considered appropritate, but there is no material to support this assert. The arguer is too arbitrary to draw this coclusion. Every consumer has unique critics, the minimum percentage considered appropriate should take into account many factors, including consumer , waiters and waitresses.
In the third place, 13 percent is not considerably less than 15 percent. 13 percent is noly a little less than 15 percent , and those dining in groups of four or more tipped less than 15 percent can not represent that peop;e dining in a group are less likely to feel personally responsible for leving an adequate or generous tip. Giving less tip is only a behave of a group , we can not assert that every people in this group lis likely to feel personallly responsible for leaving less tip.
To sum up, the concludsion lack credibility beacuse the evdence cited in the analysis does not lend strong support to what the arguer maintains. To strengthen the argument, the arguer would have to provide more evidence mentioned-above, and shoud not make asserts arbitrarily.
