TOPIC: ISSUE103 - "The study of history has value only to the extent that it is relevant to our daily lives."
WORDS: 528 TIME: 0:50:00 DATE: 2007-4-8
History, which has to do with the events occurred before and people who lived before us, is the treasure, which not only teach us how to live but also give us suggestions on how to live well-which both are relevant to our daily life, pasted to us from our ancestors. If we compare the history as a book, the treasure is insinuated by it. Sometimes some insinuation is easily for us to catch as they are explicit, some, however, would take us lots of times to make out as they need drawbridges. Thus, it is really hard for me to conjure up any example to show the existence of any history study has nothing of value to our daily life.
In the first place stands some examples about history study which directly relevant to our daily life. Such as the famous people in our history and the mistakes made by our ancestors, and so forth. Unavoidably, studying history need us to study its heroes-men or women, which are important for the some events' occurrence. Thus, during studying these people we will learn much about their intelligence and courage and other spirits-all these will greatly encourage people nowadays. Taking Newton as an example, people will learn from him to think things any time and anywhere, which is important for us to catch any chance to crate; following Washington as an example, people will learn from him to face any difficulty bravely and courageously, which tells us never surrender to troubles; taking Bruno as an example, people will be much braver to hold on their truth, which are key factors for pulling our history on and on. Moreover, the mistakes made by our ancestors give us suggestions not to waste time on these stupid things again. For instance, if one person made a mistake to somebody else, the law would punishes him-maybe send him to prison or even sentence him to death-which is like an alarm alerting people not to do that bad thing again. From the discussion above, we can see that history is just like a guide leading us to move on not move back.
However, sometimes history study seems has nothing to do with our daily life, and some of which we may query whether they are history study or not. In fact they also have greatly relevant to our ever day life. Take the study of Paleontology for instance. Few people know what Paleontology is studied for. However, one outcome of this unpopular major can supply petroleum for cars to run, for lamps to shine, and so forth. Paleontology has to do with the history of the plants and animals lived before, in this sense, it is one kind of history study. Besides petroleum is form from plants and animals' bodies, which undergo thousands of years. Everyday experience informs us we cannot go without petroleum-which is greatly relevant to our daily life. Thus, we should play enough emphasis on this strange kind of history study.
In conclusion, history study is more or less, directly or indirectly influence our daily life, since the ruler of history study is our human beings, who usually do things beneficial for their lives-which is somewhat determined by the nature of beings. |
