Is reading as important as it was in this age of television, or could television replace books as the main medium for learning? The speaker claims so. However,[此处转折后内容为作者观点,但转折前是否应有表示“I”想法的内容呢?] I concede the merit of television as a supplemental resource for learning, [此处是否可以添加表转折的连词?However]books should still serve as the basic form for nurturing people with knowledge and thoughts.Living in the age of television, any one has the impression that we can revise our way [是否可以换一个词?同一句中出现两次way不知是否合适]of pursuing knowledge in a more vivid and compelling way--watching television. Television, new apparatus appeared in last century changed our life styles: switching on American Morning while having breakfast which was supposed to be with The New York Times, less time reading after dinner with family members but sitting in front of the TV set enjoying exploring the world via Discovery, seldom showing up in community clubs since time occupied by talk shows on CNN[好长的一句啊!开始没看懂,后来仔细看过感觉真是好!学习ing…]. Staying at home with television plugged-in, we are connected with the world in every minute, able to keep up with any reform of knowledge. While television program engenders us to get varieties of knowledge in first time, first place, more and more commercials, television violence and porn videos are easily to be approached by adolescents, which do a great harm to their characteristic growth and academical[是否?academic] development. One nationwide study carried out last year by researchers from Ministry of Law China shows that crime rate of teenagers who are addicted to television violence is three times as much as that of the ones without such experience. Conscientious about such moral degeneration and potential social deterioration, our control in broadcasting and parent surveillance seems to be so feeble. Even under rigid censorship and effective surveillance, adolescents could hardly immune from television addiction, which occupies considerable time supposed to study. We all have the experience of failure in quiz simply because of watching too much television, falling in asleep in class for staying up before tv till sunset or being absentminded on class recalling last night's soap. Television not only provides us alternative way of purchasing knowledge, but entraps us into the missing world.Returning back to our conservative media of knowledge, we could not overlook the value of books to providing human knowledge and transmitting thoughts. While reading, we could browse any abstract region or wander in any part of the history as we want. We could be one quantum adventuring the space trip from outer space to earth as what is predicted in Eistein's Theory of Relativity. Or might we be under the barrage of The Civil War back to the 18th century North America. No matter where we are, what kind of religion we hold or how well we earn our lives, we have the same access to knowledge and intelligence. In the final analysis, in any time along the history we have quite a lot method to get ourselves educated, among which reading is the basic element for establishing personality and knowledge. Reading nurtures human mind from the every beginning of literacy, books are the treasure we get from our ancestors or peers. While television or any other form of media, Internet for instance, could serve as the supplementary resources to accomplish the goal of education.
