自己占位改改...sigh...什么时候能写上4分啊???
When talking about technology, people always compare it to a double-edged sword-on the one hand, as a blessing, it is of great help to people no matter in every day life or during the time of studying and working; on the other hand, as a curse, it brings about some unwelcome things which add new problems to our societies while some stubborn ones are still rampant. Moreover, when it comes to the customs and ethics, in my viewpoint, what is admitted is technology influences them greatly and thoroughly. Yet, it is exaggerated for the speaker to assert that they can be determined by technology.
Admittedly, technology with its unique merits has changed social customs and ethics from such respects as appearance and style. Take the way of communication between people who live far away as a typical example. In the past when there was no telephone and computer, those people who did not live together usually communicated with each other by mail, which most often would take them several days to wart for. However, with the advent of the telephone, it becomes possible for people to talk with others no matter how far they live away. And now the emergence of computer and Internet further advance the way of communication. By chatting on Internet, people are permitted to watch each other while they are talking. Accordingly, in this procedure of changing style of communication from traditional way to modern one, it is technology that plays an important role, and thus greatly benefits people. All in all, such technology as a blessing should be applauded and welcomed.
In addition, the other side-curse of technology “as a sword” has brought about challenge to the existing customs and ethics. For example, the Internet-related crime such as internet fraud and viruses and hacking and so forth, which is unimaginable for people who lived a long time ago when no computer existed, is becoming more and more rampant. In order to deal with these new styles crimes, every country government carries out new laws to punish those people who commit such kind of crime. Although this influence of technology is unwelcome, this example still can be employed to illustrate one contention that technology only can change the appearances and styles of customs and ethics-for better or worse, rather than crate new kinds of customs and ethics.
However, when it comes to social customs and ethics, it is overstated to assert that technology determines them. Common sense informs us that the formation of customs and ethics is usually determined by other factors, such as a significant history event and the like, rather than technology. For instance, the American Thanksgiving Day is formed when the migrating people arrived at the North America Continent. At that time, American Indian helped them to get used to live there. In order to thank those warmhearted people and mostly thank God for what they have, those migrating people set up this holiday. Obviously, in this example it is difficult for us to find out the influence or even the shadow of technology which contributes nothing to its formation. Besides, concerning the Christmas Festival, which is the most famous holiday of America and some other countries, it is has everything to do with Christianity. Also, as to this holiday's formation, I am hard-pressed to figure out what contribution the technology has done.
To sum up, from what we have discussed above, we may safely draw a conclusion that technology only goes insofar as influence our customs and ethics rather than determines them. Moreover, the influence of technology towards customs and ethics is a blessing and also a curse, and we should welcome the “blessing” while resist the “curse”.
