I can not agree it more that education can not be truly effective unless it is specifically designed to meet the individual need and interest of each students.
First of all, interest is the best teacher. If we are interested in something, we should be devoted into it and feel happy, otherwise, even if we undertake it, we can not try our best. For example, Newton had eager interest in physics, so he love doing experiment in lab and thinking about the secret of cosmos. Even a falling apple can give him aspiration. However, if Newton was forced to learn finance, we do not believe he would become a successful banker. If only the individual interest of students, a part of the nature of human, is meeted, could they be educated successfully.
Secondly, everyone has his own comparative advantage in specific fields. Someone do well in logical thinking while others are good at aesthetic taste. So in order to achieve success, one must bring his comparative advantage into play. For example, Winston Churchile is a statesman of genius who lead the UK defeat Nazi, however, it is impossible for him to research relative principle, genetic engineering or nanotechnology. Nobody know students' comparative advantage and comparative disadvantage more than themselves, so if education will be truly effective, it must meet the individual need of students.
Thirdly, achieving a good job becomes more and more challenging to anyone. Only the employers with the ability, experience fit to the job will be welcome. For example, if a graduate want to serve as a salesman he must do well in communicating with others, otherwise, he can not persuade potential clients. While an engineer must be good at mathematics, physics and so on. Different interest engenders different selection of job, and different job require students to learn different knowledge and to master different skills. If education fails to meet the individual needs of each students, the students can not succeed in his future career.
Last but not the least, the character and method of teaching of teachers fulfill a function in the progress of learning . Different individual like different kind of teachers. Someone like humorous teachers, while others like erudite ones. Someone want teachers to elaborate, while others want teachers to edify him. If teachers can not meet students’ individual need, students’ enthusiasm will decrease inevitably ,of cause, they can not study effectively. So it is necessary to ensure effective education that different kind of individual are taught in different methods.
In sum, everyone is unique in interest, comparative advantage and the aim career, which render them have distinct need and interest. Everyone is rational enough to decide what to learn and how to study. Their need and interest must be meeted. |
