The medical dictionary defines inflammation as the reaction of a part of thebody to injury or infection, characterized by swallowing heat redness and pain, process includes increased blood flow with an influx of white blood cells andother chemical substances that facilitate healing. So inflammation is goodexcept one is bad. In the past 15 years the medical community has realized thatinflammation contributes to heart disease by helping the form arterial plaqueand to delete diabetes and possibly even to depression. And according to an article on the July issue of Scientific American more andmore researchers,
come to the realization are coming to the realization that inflammation may also play a crucial role in the developmentof cancer. Until recently genetic changes were the primary focus of cancerstudy, but in the last decade it’s becomeclear that developing tumors can take over some of the molecular apparatus inflammationand use it to grow and spread. The good news is that this realization opens up anew realm of potential anti-cancer drugs. Anti-inflammation medications mighthave the potential to stop new tumors in their tracks.

有事耽误了,才听了19号的,又一大片搞不出来,汗~~对过大家所有的,加上自己的理解,我觉得那个地方应该是:
helping to form arterial plug and diabetes and possibly even ...
吧,形成动脉栓塞。。。
不知道对不对。。。

Frostbite treatment hasn’t changed much in the last 25 years. The basic therapy is to rewarm the frozen tissue, wait and hope you don’t have to amputate it, which you often do have to do. In fact an Mormon doctor has frostbite in January and amputate in July. But small study just published in all kinds of surgery suggest something new might be on the horizon for frostbite victims. Researchers theorized that medication used to dissolve blood clots might be effective in frostbite. It is called tissue plasminogen activator or TPA. One of the big problems in frostbite therapies is the inflammation during thawing. The inflammation stimulates cloting that blocks small blood cells causing cell duff. The TPA apparently keeps clots from forming sparing the cells. In the study, 6 frostbite victims received TPA within 24 hours after suffering their freezing injuries. While 25 others got traditional treatment. The latter group treated conventionally lost 41% of their effected fingers or toes. But the TPA treated patients were under blucing just 10 percent of their frustrating digits.

Please help me with the missing parts! thanks!:loveliness:

Clotbusting Drug Looks Promising For Frostbite Victims

Frostbite treatment hasn’t changed much in the last 25 years. The basic therapy is to re-warm the frozen tissue, wait and hope you don’t have to amputate, which you often do have to do. In fact, an axiom among doctors is “frostbite in January, amputate in July”. But a small study just published in the Archives of Surgery suggests something new might be on the horizon for frostbite victims. Researchers theorized that a medication used to dissolve blood clots might be effective in frostbite. It’s called tissue plasminogen activator, or tPA. One of the big problems in frostbite therapy is inflammation during thawing. The inflammation stimulates clotting that blocks small blood vessels, causing cell death. The tPA apparently keeps clots from forming, sparing the cells. In the study, 6 frostbite victims received tPA within 24 hours of suffering their freezing injuries, while 25 others got traditional treatment. That latter group treated conventionally lost 41% of their affected fingers and toes but the tPA-treated patients wound up losing just 10% of their frostbitten digits.

Inflammation's Newly Recognized Role in Cancer

The medical dictionary defines inflammation as the reaction of a part of the body to injury or infection, characterized by swelling, heat, redness, and pain. The process includes increased blood flow with an influx of white blood cells and other chemical substances that facilitate healing. So inflammation is good, except when it’s bad. In the past 15 years the medical community has realized that inflammation contributes to heart disease by helping to form arterial plaque, and to diabetes and possibly even to depression. And according to an article in the July issue of Scientific American, more and more researchers are coming to the realization that inflammation may also play a crucial role in the development of cancer. Until recently, genetic changes were the primary focus of cancer study. But in the last decade, it’s become clear that developing tumors can take over some of the molecular apparatus of inflammation and use it to grow and spread. The good news is that this realization opens up a new realm of potential anti-cancer drugs. Anti-inflammatory medications might have the potential to stop new tumors in their tracks.

Note:   The implied meaning of “except when it’s bad” is when it’s bad, it is really bad.

inflammation 又出现了:)

skin exposed to extreme cold can quickly develop frostbite, and that tissue death leading to amputations may occur if frostbitten skin is warmed too quickly or improperly.

April 25, 2007: 60-Second Science
Smelly Mutation May Have Been First Step To New Fly Species

They call it, seriously, “vomit fruit”. Tahitian Noni is a Polynesian shrub that smells so bad, well, bluh. Anyway, most species of fruit fly stay away from the plant, which gets its nasty smell from the presence of hexanoic and octanoic acids. The fly’s aversion is well founded—if they even alight on the fetid fruit, they die. But one species of fruit fly, Drosophila sechellia, loves the pukey plant; it even lays its eggs there. In a study just published in Public Library of Science Biology, researchers looked at the genetic differences between sechellia and close relatives that shun the Noni. They found a very different pattern of expression of two genes responsible for olfaction that made these sechellia fruit flies no longer notice the bad smell. More research will unravel the rest of the story, but it seems a good bet that once these sechallias stop minding the funk, they quickly developed a resistance to the acidic environment that kills other species of Drosophila. And mutations that made a few species tolerate the smelly plant may have been the first steps toward a new species.

没有文本,如果实在觉得听起来困难,你可以对照大家的听抄听,这样你可以发现别人的听抄中的一些错误,当然也可以找到自己听不懂的地方的文字,呵呵
