错误。首先是按照各种指标的排名，其次才是professor看自己跟你是否合拍。这是我老板说的。如果按照你的意思，那系里早乱套了，每个老板通常都有一个人选，有的甚至有两三个人选，20个左右老板，按照50%，你的意思是每年至少能招收10个PhD和Mphil？怎么会有这么多？我老板最多的一年一次招了3个PhD，其实主要都是因为他们排名靠前，如果按照你的逻辑，其他的professor早就跟我老板吵起来了。

As far as I know, the procedure is like this:
First of all, the panel will sort the applicants according to several index. Then the application package of those who can be rated with high score will be sent to their proposed prof for personal selection. After that, each prof may nominate several applicants to the dept to see if they can get the quota from the department (in this stage a number of applicants will be eliminated). After that those remaining applicants package will be sent to the graduate school for screening.

Do not know if my knowledge about the process is correct or not, the information was once obtained from a staff in HKU.

May be I have exaggerated a bit in saying "50%", sorry for that. What I really mean is that in HKU, the usual practice is that if you can keep close contact with a prof, then successful rate will be higher. For CUHK, even though if you have contacted a prof, the successful rate will not increased a lot.

By the way, may I ask if you are currently a psy student in HK or not?

详细的程序我不太清楚。我还想举一个例子来说明排名是第一要件，我认识一个人今年申请，在email里被admission committee通知说如果能找到一个professor愿意带他，他就能申请成功。由于是我的一个朋友，我就跑去问我老板怎么会出现这种情况，我老板说他肯定是排名比较靠前，但是没有professor跟他的方向合拍，professor们都觉得自己无法给他research proposal中提出的研究课题或是他以前做过的那类课题以实质性的指导；如果觉得自己在短短三四年里带不出来这个学生来，professor们是不会收这样的学生的。

说一说联系老板。联系老板确实很重要，香港也是华人社会，都重人情，即使申请北美也最好能够陶瓷，其实都是在互相了解，建立关系。但如果想只通过联系老板就把整件事情搞定，是不可能的。因为是有一个admission committee的，这个committee要保证公平，所以不可能老板想要你了你就okay了（但是一些牛老板似乎除外，这个我不太清楚）。其实我个人在申请的过程中并没有联系HKU的任何professor，但最后还是被录取了，这足以看出并不是只有人情在那里起作用。所以请大家相信其公平性。

IC, my case was a bit different to your friend's case.
(I am still a bachelor student and has applied for Mphil degree only, not qualified to apply for PhD:( .)

How is your application? Actually it's very very difficult for a bachelor student from the mainland to be successfully admitted to the PhD or Mphil program in the psychology department of HKU. I haven't heard of such a case up to now. There are over 100 students in each grade of the psychology department and each year many of them apply for the Mphil program. HKU professors surely prefer their own students.

yes， you bet ！

HK psychology的mphil的名额是要优先给本地学生的

去年在CUHK唯一见过的一个大陆mphil学生是个北大来的MM
读的是sociology 与gender study 相结合的一个项目
她说心理学系的mphil没有大陆学生
所以内地学生录取上的都是phd， 而且是已经有硕士学位的ohd
