Do you believe the use of the internet in formal education is a good idea? What future effects will the internet have on academic study?


It is well known that computer technology has changed many aspects of mankind. The most frequent variation to students is internet education and the issue about whether it is good or not is discussed sharply. In my opinion, however, both online education and formal one could coexist in terms of communicational and interpersonal skills.

Internet study can save people much time and provide an easy and convenient method for effective communication. When teacher and student logon it simultaneously, challenging questions could be answered in real-time. Moreover, a number of learners prefer this mode, especially for bashful ones who lack of confidence to raise questions in presence of authority except online. Therefore, such an approach could improve their communicational skill dramatically.

Meanwhile, formal education enables people to exercise interpersonal skill. For instance, college students are in their age of social practice and naturally seeking for more opportunities to take part in various activities, which ideally could be done through campus life. In addition, for solving emotional issue when dealing with pressure or frustration, face to face communication with teacher is much more effective than that on the internet, simply because they will offer professional solutions through consultation. Furthermore, team spirit and mutual trust could be developed as a foundation for future career during the process of exchanging ideas and opinions with eye contact.

To sum up, it is undeniable that there are quite a few drawbacks of internet study related to health problems. Nonetheless, I still hold the view that, in the long run, as long as it is used reasonably combined with formal education, students could gain rich experience communicatively and interpersonally.
