Issue 185
"Scandals--whether in politics, academia, or other areas--can be useful. They focus our attention on problems in ways that no speaker or reformer ever could."
It is true that different kinds of scandals in contemporary society can largely attract our attentions, since they can serve to reveal some more profound context and nature of cases that a community or society should be informed. Nonetheless, over-focusing on scandals might also bring some negative aspects; especially distract people from other more crucial social problems.

To begin with, revealing some scandals can help people to know some privacy issues which having been ignored by the public for a long time. Moreover, under the heavy pressure from media and the public, it will compel government to take quick and effective measures to resolve it. In addition, it will also force legislations to make according laws or useful systems to improve legislation procedures, which guarantees the normal progress of almost all activities. Consider, for example, the Watergate scandal, which is quite familiar with many people. With various kinds of media-such as radio, TV, newspaper-having reported about nearly the whole relevant aspects of incidental process, the level of examination what public officials did has greatly increased, which brings a significant and enduring benefit to our society. Besides, the feature about British Prime Minister Tony Blair having falsified the intelligence during the Iraq attack not only attracted people to focus on it, but also indicated the implied problems and improper systems of making deals with political or martial intelligence.

Furthermore, since being afraid that scandals would be revealed one day, politicians, scientists and learners, as well as sports referees will tend to pay more attention to their behaviors. In other words, the revelation of scandals by media has an important role in restraining certain people's performances. For example, politicians may increase the emphasis on conforming to law rules and provisions, scientists or learners might prefer the truth of their research processes and results rather than the superficial performances and sports referees also tend to more consider the importance of fairness. Therefore, scandals can sometimes serve to call our attention to pervasive social or political problems, which may helpfully and effectively promote the development of society to some extent.

However, over-focusing on scandals can sometimes distract us from more important social issues. Consider, for instance, the Clinton sex scandal. There is no doubt that the scandal made people pay attention to some issues of federal legislation; especially the impeachment proceedings will provide an effective procedural precedent for future jurisdictions. Nonetheless, the scandal of that year served mainly to distract people from other more crucial national and global problems, such as social-security crisis, health-care reform, tax adjustment, Kosovo crisis and so on.

In sum, I agree that scandals have played an important role in modern society since it can reveal more specific and inherent contexts to attract public's attentions and so can promote systems reform in certain fields to some extent. However, whether a scandal works more benefit than harm to a community or society must be considered on the specific cases.

To begin with, revealing some scandals can help people to know some privacy issues which having been ignored by the public for a long time. Moreover, under the heavy pressure from media and the public, it will compel government to take quick and effective measures to resolve it. In addition(前面有一个Moreover,这里又有一个In addition,感觉这里衔接的并不好), it will also force legislations to make according laws or useful systems to improve legislation procedures, which guarantees the normal progress of almost all activities. Besides, the feature about

Furthermore, since being afraid that scandals would be revealed one day, politicians, scientists and learners, as well as sports referees will tend to pay more attention to their behaviors. In other words, the revelation of scandals by media has an important role in restraining certain people's performances(感觉这句话代替上句话作为本段的TS要好些,本段论证因该是围绕这句话展开的).
