74"The most effective way to communicate an idea or value to large groups of people is through the use of images, not language."

有保留的反对
1, image 确实可以引起普遍感动
2,但是language 也可以向large groups of people传递信息。

The speaker alleges that images, instead of langue are the most effective communication media for delivering an idea or value to large groups of people. I find this allegation to be specious. It compares images with language too simply without considering their separate merits thoroughly. In fact, images and language are both effective ways to communicate with the masses. Their comparative strengths depend on different situations and vibes.

Admittedly, the use of image is one of the most effective ways in conveying information to people. Pay tribute to Michelangelo’s David, it demonstrates the strength and youthful human beauty to audience precisely and vividly.  Being a masterpiece of Renaissance sculpture, it delivers the value bestowed to us all the while in thousands of years---no matter the difference of our ages, colors or backgrounds. Consider Mona Lisa then---a 16th century oil painting known by almost everyone in the world. People are all trying to read something out from her enigmatic gaze. Mona Lisa’s large extent of famous is the self-evidence for its effectiveness for communicating with large amount of people cogently. Look back at our society nowadays; countless photographic works are delivering various ideas or realities to their audience. Looking at the winners gallery of Picture of POYi (Picture of The Year international), we are inevitably moved and enlightened by the information behind the pictures---family be apart because of the war, a mother’s journey with her ill child and so on. These pictures are with discrepant topics but utterly they are able to communicate their containing meanings to people. Based on these above aspects, I acknowledge the merits of images in effectively delivering information to the masses.

However, the speaker unwarrantedly negates the value that language processes in fulfilling the same goal. Language, as a system used to facilitate communication among human being, has a long history and large amounts of different deviations. Maybe it is the different kinds of languages that evoke the author’s doubt on its function. Evidently, people with dissimilar languages hardly can receive the precise information carried by another language. Yet, our society has already developed a reliable translation and interpreting system to solve this problem. Although some of the concepts are difficult to be translated into another language exactly, it is normally resulted from cross-culture reason---this reason also can deviate the communication of images. We present ideas in international conferences using language. We listen the representatives’ speaks in Olympic Games Bids. Different languages can not burden our understanding on the information of speaks with all the translation and interpreting. We have to accept that language, even in today’s era of culture impacts, are still playing a critical role in delivering ideas and values.

Lastly, we are not supposed to compare the effectiveness of communication between images and language. Sometimes, language and images are most effective when they are used together. Language can explain in details what the images want to display. In the contrary, images are also able to add colors to the literal language. Consider the instances above, in winners gallery of POYi, every picture has a title or sometimes an explanation---of course written in language; at the same time, in the presentation of Olympic Games application, representatives of each city always use images to convince audience the beauty of their cities. Look at this question through a different lens, in respect of the ever lasting values passed through generations, who can be naïve enough to compare the effectiveness of Rabindranath Tagore’s poetry and Vincent van Gogh’s oil painting---these two celebrities’ works have undoubtedly influence lots of people. Putting aside this particular example, in most cases language and image are both effective on communicating ideas or values to masses in their respective areas and are not supposed to be compared.

In sum, images and languages are both effective in delivering information to large amounts of people. They both have different strengths in consummating this goal. It is inappropriate to compare them at the first place.

点评:image的那段写的很不错,language那段有点侧重缺点了,优点的阐述不够力度,例子比较恰当,能再精当点就更好了,句型和语言都是我们学习的榜样啊。
