issue51. "Education will be truly effective only when it is specifically designed to meet the individual needs and interests of each student."
1. 总说:在学生足够成熟的情况下发展兴趣是有必要的,但是只采取这种教育方式是不行的
2. 以学生为中心的教育方式比过去只以老师为中心要有效
3. 但是,不能过分夸大了学生中心说的教育方式.因为A.学生的兴趣不稳定的,眼界有限,他们不够成熟来为自己选择应该接受的知识.B.基础课程和培养价值观的课程是不可删除的.C,没有足够的老师,教学设备来满足繁多的学生兴趣.
Since more and more people realize that education is important to both the individual and society futures,a controversy about how to give effective education has arisen. I concede that meeting the students’needs and interests,as the speaker asserts,is a important way to attain the educational goal insofar as students are mature enough to receive such professional knowledge.Otherwise, only adopting such education pattern does not fully take the contemporary educational resource into account.
Admittedly, much emphasization are put onto the notion “student-oriented” nowdays in many of the countries’educational systems.Looking back into the old times when the education was dominated by the“teacher-oriented”idea ,students played a subordinate role or even were put on a position sounded cold “the slaves of the knowledge”.In such situation,it was the teachers’responsibility to choose what should be infused into the students’brains, which seems gave extensive rights but in fact a complicated problem to teachers. If some students didn’t have any interest in teachers’syllabus or even couldn’t catch a word in the class, they would be fiercely depressed and lost heart in learn. What a pity it was because knowledge taught by teachers would have sparked one’s intelligence and motivation of learning if given properly. Being convince that the best learning way of students is not to receive passively but to fetch initiatively we have to admit that if students are given more freelance to decide their own directions of development, they could made a smoother progress in their study.
However,we couldn’t overstate the fuction of students deciding what to be taught. Although it will certainly be welcomed by students that schools offer each of them specifically designed education, it can hardly be put into practice, and the results will not be so satisfactory as expectation. First, whether or not their chosen lessons will be well arranged and prepare them for future is quite questionable. There might come some problems providing that the basical and compulsory curriculums are supplanted by varid lessons made on the students’s purpose such as on how to become a pop star or only provide excessive amusement acclaimed to enrich one’s intelligence and emotion. Children and youngsters, who are immature and whimsical, may choose lessons capriciously without deliberation or well-arrangement. Dropping lessons as easily as taking them, or even avoiding lessons which they do not feel interest yet in fact are crucial, they will find their careers checked because of lacking some knowledge. Secondly, some basic curriculums couldn’t be omited since they are crutial to cultivate students’intelligence and personality. For example, science, sociology and arts are vitally needed to improve one’s creativity, insight and analytical skills, without which a student couldn’t even make clearly what on earth their interests and advantages are. Also some other responsibilities the education should take, such as building a student’s values system and ethical standards,to lead the students know how they can best put their knowledge to use and combine their needs and interests with the society’s demands. It’s obvious that our society are in bad need of talants who can contribute valuable theories and skills to the social evolution rather than those whose forte is no use at all. Thirdly ,compared to enormous students, the number of teachers is obviously far from sufficient, and so do libraries, labs and other educational facilities.Specifically designed education for every individual, on the contrary, will take up a great amount of time of teachers who will be otherwise improving their educational levels or imparting knowledge to a wider range of students. Therefore, Were all things handed over to the students apart from teachers’constructive guidings, many chaos might appear.we couldn’t neglect the crucial part teachers play.
In sum, I concede that meeting the individual needs and interests of students can make education more effective than “teacher-oriented”dominated days.Nevertheless, the perfect way of education should contain both fundament courses and trainings focus on students’ varied needs and interests. In other words, the process of education should be handled by both teachers and students. It might be complex but we must strive to find a balance between the“student-oriented”and “teacher-oriented”education. |
