Confucius, the greatest and most influential philosopher and educator of ancient China, once said, "Art would provide people with beauty, music would endow people with intelligence, everyone should be enlighten by art and music". Nowadays, people are more and more concerning that all students should be educated with art and music. Well in my opinion, it is certainly necessary for all students to be required to study these two courses in secondary school.

First of all, art and music will provide students many knowledge linked with art, which may play extremely essential role in students' lives. As we all know, art and music will inspire people's imagination, especially as for those students in secondary school. When these students graduate from school or even college, the background knowledge always benefit to their vocation. Let me take my cousin who started to learn piano from his childhood as an example, although he didn't choose music as his career, the piano gave a path to express himself differently when he did his course design on architecture. His professor valued his work with the fluidity as music, and my cousin thought it was the piano practice that exerted positive effects.

Secondly, art and music will give great enjoyment of beauty to students. For those who in secondary school, it is important for school to offer art and music course and cultivate their sense of art. In most Chinese parents' view, the sense of art and the consciousness of beauty seem nothing but crap and are much more useless than those basic knowledge such as math, physics and chemistry. What they didn't know is that art could open a window and bring a whole new world to students. Art and music would not only ease students' mood but also could change the way how students see this world. The good thing is that more and more Chinese parents are beginning to realize how important art and music are and let their children to keep touch with them.

Moreover, for a student who wants to get comprehensively development, he should know the basic knowledge of every subject. It is hard to imagine that people value a students who are good in math but know nothing about Van Gogh as a comprehensive developed student. Especially when it comes to secondary school which pursues the students' comprehensively development as its goal, art and music courses should be given high attention as other courses.

To conclude, art and music courses are indeed needed in secondary school, definitely and undoubtedly.
