这篇虽然是高频,但偶没写过提纲,所以可能以下写的很散,狠狠拍阿~
Have you ever resort to astrology for answers of whether you can succeed in an difficult exam? Have you once ask for guidance of fortune-teller when you are confronted with a host of troubles? If so, it may satisfy your needs such as seeking for sense of safety about uncertainty. The speaker asserts that such nonmainstream areas of inquiry play a viral role in society by meeting with human needs that are not addressed by mainstream science. In my point of view, the speaker goes too far to be blind at the potential detriments of such nonmainstream areas.
To begin with, it is true that astrology, fortune-telling, as well as psychic and paranormal pursuits, those nonmainstream areas of inquiry can satisfy some certain human needs. Human being, as social members, always search for certainty and safety about future or unknown things by human nature. In light of some limits of mainstream science, , nonmainstream areas of inquiry have opportunities to stand up as a style and allegation of solving as many problems as possible compared with mainstream science. People are inclined to ask for help of such nonmainstream areas in view that fortune, in their opinion, can only be told in a mysterious and subtle way which cannot be accurately analyzed by math, physics, biology or other mainstream sciences. Looking back on Chinese history, almost all the emperors believe in the fortune-telling knowledge about whether the display of tombs will have a bad effect on the prosperity of the whole nation and his stability of status as the top leader. In modern times, with the rapid development of technology, people may not adopt that method to predict the future, however it doesn't mean that they do not believe in them any more. Facts still remain that we resort to those nonmainstream areas in another form, for example, it is so popular for astrology on internet to attest whether a girl and a guy match each other and have most opportunity to be a couple. In this sense, such nonmainstream areas of inquiry to some degree can satisfy human needs such as curiosity about uncertainty by virtue of those mysterious methods.
However, the speaker's assertion imply that nonmainstream areas of inquiry can play a vital or even indispensable role in society in contrast to mainstream science, which may pose some risk that can defeat the harmony of society and hamper the progress of mainstream science. First, even if people are prone to seek for help of nonmainstream areas, it does not constitute the justification that such areas play a vital role. On the contrary, such areas of inquiry may be detrimental to the harmony of society. Take the Falungong evil as example , this evil organization make use of people's curiosity and belief in nonmainstream inquiry, something like region, however which will mislead people into destruct of themselves and even make aggressive actions to others and the whole society. Second, more emphasize on nonmainstream areas of inquiry will more or less decrease people's desire to struggle for success. If the fortune-teller informs you that you'll get A on the final exam, you may not work hard to get a better score merely based on some words of that fortune-teller. Third, the nonmainstream areas of inquiry cannot in fact explain and solve those problems in a scientific way and thus cannot play an indispensable role like mainstream sciences. With the advances of sciences, we will have confidence to say that mainstream science can solve those problems in a more convincing way.
To sum up, the speaker's claim may mislead people that such nonmainstream areas of inquiry are essential and vital in our society without regard of the disadvantages and even detriments that the nonmainstream give rise to. Even if some problems cannot be explained and addressed via mainstream sciences now, we still have a clear idea that only through the scientific methods and our own struggle for success but not the unwarranted fortune-telling can we get a better and more convincing promise of future.
