People always seldom agree with each other on such issues that who should you make friends with, people who are different from you, or similar with you. It is a little bit haste to say it is better to choose friends who are different from you, or vice versus.
Choosing friends who are different from you has several benefits. Firstly, choosing the persons who are different from you breed a breadth of vision and understanding. Take me as a example. I was not interested in the classic music at all and knew little about it. But I made a friend whose major is classic music. He told the stories of the artists, like Mozart, brought me to the concerts and we had a good time. Also, I have gained a lot of music knowledge and begin to feel an interest in it. Moreover, people who are different from yourself always think or solve problems in a different way from you. Therefore, some troublesome matters may be just a piece of cake to them, and they are useful helpers to you.
Making friends with people who are similar to you, however, also has some merits. Friends who are similar to each other often cherish the same ideals and follow the same path. They always share the same views and are easy to chat with each other for a long time. And therefore, friends who are similar to you is easy to get your feelings, your thoughts, your joy and even your sadness. When you laugh, s/he laugh with you. When you cry, s/he could console you better than anyone else.
As for me, I make friends with all kinds of persons, regardless of the differences. If I make close friends, however, I will choose people who are similar with me. Because I like to talk to my close friends about my feelings and emotion. I believe only the persons who are similar with me can become my best friends.
