What you can expect from postgraduate study in Social work What you're in for

This field has relatively small numbers of courses, providers and students. Apart from the many courses which are designed for those already in the field (or a related area), there are selected graduate entry bachelor degrees offering graduates of other disciplines the chance to qualify. While in the past this field was dominated by coursework programs, the proportion of research students is now over half. If you are among those contemplating a research degree, you are likely to be better off looking at departments/schools which have a sizeable and established research program, not so much because the academics will be ‘better’, but because they will be better placed to open up the academic networks. You are also more likely to find a critical mass of research students, and better access to scholarships.
