Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? A zoo has no useful purpose. Use specific reasons and examples to explain your answer

There is a general discussion over the term of a zoo when Dasen zoo scandal broke out last year in China. One of the questions under debate is whether a zoo has useful purpose.

In this public discussion, some reasons why a zoo has no useful purpose are widely accepted. For example, animals in the zoo sometimes couldn't get good care. The living space of animals is very small and the food are scarce even not appropriate for those animals. One of my friends told me that he had seen a lacklustre-skin wolf which is a typical carnivore eating Chinese cabbage in its cage. After he asked the supervisor who took care of this wolf, he knows the reason why a wolf could eat cabbage is that the zoo is too poor to afford to allow the wolf eating meat everyday. Indeed, it must be admitted that zoos which couldn't offer a nice and comfortable habitat should be closed.

However, what we must also see is that zoo could bring about many positive impacts on our lives, for the following reasons.

First, zoo is one of the best access to animals protection. As we all know, many kinds of animals are disappearing on this crowded planet. Zoo could offer a home to those animals which are face the danger of losing living spaces and having no food to eat.

Second, zoo could also provide some treasure sources with scientific research. For instance, it is hard to imagine that a student who is major in mammalogy had never seen a zebra during his study. Thus zoo could be a good choice for him and he could have opportunity to learn the knowledge in real life rather than in book.

Moreover, zoo is also one of the best places for children to know more about nature. In fact, nowadays, children in China whoever live in city or countryside didn't get a access to know many wild animals. There is even a saying goes like "children only know what beef tastes, but they don't know what a bull like". So animals, especially those wild animals in the zoos are not only a kind of fun for children, but also a good and live biology lesson.

All in all, although there are some defects, zoo's advantages far outweigh its disadvantages. A zoo does have many useful purposes which should be made use of and more and more great efforts should be taken to take good care of the animals in the zoos, otherwise being of zoo will be nothing.
