During the first years of a child’s life before going to school, the child spend most of his/her time with his/her parents. Most of his/her basic skills are imitated and learned from the parents, who have the most significant influence on their children during that period. However, as the child grows elder, and after he/she goes to school, parents are not the most influential factors to the child. For the reason that most of the child’s time is spent in school with classmates and teachers. In this case, the most important role played in a child’s life in school is the persons who accompany with him/her in most of his/her time, that is the classmates.
First of all, classmates are of great helps in children’s academic studies. For instance, as what we have experienced before, everyday in children’s study at school, they may encounter numerous problems about the curriculums that they are learning. At that time, the usual and always the immediate help is the classmates, who can share learning experience with each other all the time. Actually, not only are they competitors, but also they are good learning partners as well. In some cases when courses related to group study such as speaking practice, cooperative classmates are especially helpful to achieve the goal of effective learning.
Besides, classmates can also help one to acquire communication skills which are helpful in teaching them how the get along and socialize with others. A class of classmates can serve as a little society, which is replete with all kinds of people. Getting along and deal with everything appropriately with classmates is also a kind of skills that children have to learn at schools. Understandably, children who are able to establish good relationship with their classmates are more likely to keep good terms with colleagues and to achieve success in their future career.
Finally, there is more likelihood for classmates with similar age to share life experience that fraught with pleasures and sorrows. Nowadays, generation gap is a modish phrase related to all kinds of families, which is in the early adolescence most teenagers become temporarily alienated from their parents. In this period, it is hard for children to communicate with their parents. Always, classmates are the person who the children want to confide their feelings. As a result, they learn more from their counterparts than from their parents.
In conclusion, although parents have some influences to theirs children, from the reasons listed above, I still hold my perspective that classmates are the most influential factors that affect a child most in school.
