Sometimes they require your case number. Just tell them you have no such a number and tell them your last name, date of birth, interview date and consulate. Good luck!

hi, dear all,

i applied for visa  in shanghai on Jan.06 and got to be checked. i'm a returning student and my major is chemical engineering.
They're keeping my application form (english version), CV, description of research and a letter from my advisor. My passport and I20 were returned to me, but they didn't give me a blue scrip (蓝条).  all of you guys got a blue scrip from them?

I am a checkee too. Could you please tell me the name of the agency in Washington that the Embassy is waiting for opinion? I tried the phone number posted but failed.

Hi, the only agency (DOS) who can check your visa clearance status's number is 202-663-1225. Push "1" when it says "This is department of state...", push "6" when it says "Main menu...". You need to be extremely patient. Many times the system cuts you off after it says "... this does not mean you have been disconnected" and you are actually disconnected. Then you have to re-dial again. You may complain by sending e-mails on DOS's web page but they never reply.

I am sorry to hear this. This new policy of checking students and scholars is so counter-productive and self-destructive that it just cannot stay as it is. Many schools start to realize the seriousness of all these policies strangling foreign scientists. I hope that your wife's school will be sympathetic to her situation and will grant her the possibility to extend her study for one more semester. -Yuhong

Now, it is clear that the delay of my GF's Visa is because of the checking in Washington D. C.  The embassay is also waiting for the response from Washington D. C.   Her boss is going to D. C next week.  Does anybody know who her boss should look for and help to solve the problem of checking?  Or which department should her boss should go to?  Is there any tel number her boss can call?

My understanding is that you can go as far as the DOS and there you hit a wall. Between the DOS and the multi-panel agencies who investigate each case there is an incompassible gulf. I hope that your girlfriend's advisor will file a complain about this case at all places, including the university's president, national academy of science, DOS's science and technology advisory committee, white house's Sci&Tech advisor, news and science media, and other government agencies that care about the advance of science rather than, say, war. -Yuhong

Hi, everyone

I am new checkee here. The VO did not ask me any question and just let me to wait approximately 8 weeks for "administrative processing" on Jan. 2, 2003. My major is EE(it seems lots of EE's are under checking).

Q: Was there anyone got refused after checking?  Or is checking just a time wasting prob?

I am not aware of people who were rejected after check, given that we are all law-abiding people. You are so right, the check is just a time-consuming procedure. Who is benefiting from this procedure, I wonder. -Yuhong

总的来说,你说的情况是指7月份以后的,但是7月份的CHECKEE并没有觉得
CHECK的速度加快了多少,我7.10到现在,仍没有一点消息,现在剩下的好像
基本都是7月被check的了,眼看就要春季开学了,学校也不一定会给延期了,
7月的CHECKEE真是惨阿

bf1月7号下午把材料交到中信，今天下午就通知去拿签证了。
专业：EE,去年1月第一次签证时曾被check.

本来1月7日上午就可以交材料，但中信不承认从大使馆网上下载的表格，
只好重新填写，而且照片一定要是近3个月的，不能与上次签证的相同，
所以费了一些时间。

刚接到电话，北京H-1B+H4批下来了，让明天去取签证，电话打到了单位；
hhhh   Thermal  11月12日check, 1月13日接到电话，让只去一个人就行了。

偶9.25日check，J1 生物遗传学专业，今下午约3：30拿到了久盼的Visa。今天的情况与踩点时，别无太大的不同，只是今天是晴天，那天在下雨。被Check后拿签证的人数大约有4-50人，有J1、F1和其他类型的签证。其中问了身旁的两位，一位是J1化学专业，9.24日check，一位F1专业EC，7.19 Check。两位均不在本版名单内，如此看来，streaming 名单仅是checkee冰山的一角。
拿到VISA，心里也没有太大的高兴，一是长期的心力憔悴，耗干了激情和兴奋，更重要的是偶一同室惬友，至今仍缈无音信，要知道他的资历比偶长近两个月。想当初俺们在一起切磋技艺，相互提携，共商大计，约定同飞，看如今他老兄还在仰天长啸，面无表情，两眼铁青，有此经历的人，深感其切肤之痛，为刀俎鱼肉之苦，欲哭无泪之态，有心无力之窘，偶还有什么心情高兴！？只有一种祈祷和祝福从心底油然而升，祝福大家平安无事，早获签证！！！！！！
上帝啊！保佑保佑大家吧！他们都是中华民族的优秀子孙。

我现在可以回答你一些问题：

check后，拿签证时，有时需要重新interview，所以你还是要准备问题回答，以防万一；
但绝大多数时候，只是由中方工作人员收新材料，还回旧材料，然后直接发放visa；

我看过许多关于check的文章，很少有再一次interview的，即使有，问题也只有一两个，非常简单

还有什么问题，请跟帖，我们一起讨论。

1. 一份完整的新的DS-156,-157,-158表
2. 护照
3. 身份证
4. 还可能需要新的IAP-66
5. 但在接到电话后，可以让学校发一个e-mail 确认有效、最新的进入日期，这个日期应该在领馆给你电话去取签证的日期后，并有充裕的时间可以准备你的行程；
6. 最好带上第一次签证的所有材料，
7. 别忘了照片
