What are the hardest and easiest medical schools to get into?
Most to least selective
While the number of applications to medical schools has dropped in recent years, it is still extremely hard to get in. Many of the most competitive only accept 1 in 20 of those who apply--or even fewer. Schools are ranked here from most to least selective based on a formula that combines average MCAT scores and undergraduate GPA for the fall 2006 entering class as well as the school's acceptance rates. Average GPAs and MCATs will give you a sense of the competition.

Which get the most research money? Which get the least?

How much research does the school support? One prime indicator is the amount of grant money the medical school and its affiliated hospitals are awarded by the National Institutes of Health, the federal research department devoted to medicine.

Which are the largest and smallest medical schools?

As you compare schools, you'll want to pay attention to the total enrollment, the size of the first-year class, and the faculty-to-student ratio. All will have an impact on the schools' personalities, the availability of professors outside of class, and the extent to which you engage with your classmates.

Which schools offer the most and the least financial aid?
Private schools

Compared to what you're going to need, you may be surprised at how little you get: Medical schools assume that their students will borrow to pay the bills because they'll make enough after graduation to manage the loan payments. However, a lucky few with top scores and undergraduate grades may find a merit award on the table. Private schools are ranked here by percentage of students receiving aid; public schools can be found here.

Whose graduates have the most debt? The least?

How much should you expect to borrow? On average, medical school grads who need to take out loans start their residencies with debt of $100,000--and that's not counting any college loans. This table shows the average amount of debt incurred by borrowers in the Class of 2005, from highest to lowest.
