The achievements of goals are always exciting; yet not all the other parts are disappointing. We all heard those stories of people achieving things while pursuing another. In fact, what is encountered and obtained through the way of destination, what ideas can be gotten during the way fighting there are often more significant than whether the destination is reached.

In many fields, numerous attainments encountered on the way to an exploration are more inspiring than the goals. The world has always evolved in the process of people seeking out answers of the unknown. A new phenomenon observed, a creative idea brought up, or a groping method conceived, yet could the results necessarily be the ones that we expected; could we always attain the goals we anticipated? The answer is “No”, because no matter how definite the intentions are, surprises occur. There are surprises never considered that lead to a big failure. Also, there are happy accidences that enable us to discovery new things or ideas on the way to the destination. William Herschel accidentally discovered Uranus while measuring shifts in the positions of stars in the constellation Gemini. Consequently, Uranus became the first planet observed by human using telescope. Columbus unintentionally discovered the Americas while on a voyage for Spain in search of a direct sea route from Europe to Asia. As a result, two worlds unknown to each other met for the first time. Exploration not only means seeking out the answers of the unknown, but also indicates that the answers are unknown. In that case, people should never be bothered if they fail to get what they expected. A novel attempt is the unification of exploration and test, which means failures, more often than not, are inevitable.Buteven the mistakes in the way also contribute a lot to the future development. Just like Samuel smiles, a Scottish writer, once said: We often discover what will do, by finding out what will not do; and probably he who never made a mistake never made a discovery.

Besides, sometimes, the ideas that are elicited on the way to a new theory are more important than the theory itself. Take physics for example, modern physics, the foundation of which is Einstein’s theory of relativity, suggests that the attribute of light should be quantum, which contradicts to classical physics that has proved it to be wave hundreds of years ago. Through a long time of debating, people finally tumbled to the idea that the attribute of light is both quantum and wave. The whole event reminded people things have their double sides, which surely enable the later generation to do researches with a more objective and scientific eye, considering the complexities of objects. Also, quantum theory overthrows the absoluteness of classical physics, which means we are living in a world where everything is accounted by probability. The word “absolute” just equals to extremely high probability. The uncertainty of objects tells human beings that we are not as strong as we thought, there are things we can never decide or predict and we have to find other ways to solve many current problems.In social realm, the significance of numerous events does not confine to what happened or how it was solved, but it is the influence on the society in the whole vision that matters. The ultimate goal of anti-corruption is not to punish some stupid, selfish, rapacious guys, but to construct an efficient, righteous government. Charity serves not only as the refuge for the poor, but the embodiment of a peaceful and harmonious world as well. Just like when you read a book, it is not the story it tells that matters, but rather the ideas that guide you in the future life.

Admittedly, the attainment of goals is also of significance. After all, they are why we were going on in the first place. Without a clear goal, all the important details have a great chance to be missed. Not everybody saying “I have found it! Eureka!” can be remembered by the later generation. Archimedes was “lucky” because of his scientific minds and the goal in his head. We look at the stars every night, yet who is lucky enough to pinpoint a new planet? There are no pure accidences in any realm. These so-called accidents are still in the virtue of clear goal, diligent thinking and well-knit knowledge. Individually speaking, we should have clear goals and try ourselves to achieve them.

In conclusion, wisely discovering what is valuable and enlightening through the process of exploration is how we learn and progress. The view of the destination is beautiful; but the scenery along the road down there is gorgeous. During the journey, we shall look with penetrative eyes; we shall listen with acute ears; we shall feel with keen heart; we shall think with shrewd head. Of course, this is all because there is a destination, or a goal. Otherwise, where does the journey lead us to?
