In this argument the author predicts a coming increase of the sales of Whirlwind video games (WV). To support this prediction the author points out that players favor games with lifelike graphics showed in a recent survey, and the WV just has introduced several such games. The author also points out that WV do an extensive advertising campaign directed at people 10 to 25 years old who are most likely to play video games. However, I find this argument is logically incredible in several respects as discussed following:
In the first place, this argument base on an unauthentic survey that people prefer games with lifelike graphics. Perhaps, the players join this survey are all females who favor vivid graphics while other male player pay no attention to it. Or, perhaps, this survey only investigates a small group people who cannot represent all of the players. Lacking sufficient information of this survey to prove its creditability and representation, the author cannot convince me on the basis of them that WV’s new games will welcomed by players.
Even assume that games with lifelike graphics may attract people’s eyes, it not necessarily indicates that such games will bring about an increase sale. It is entirely possible that the market has been full of such games, and the decline will still occur as it has happened in the past two years. It is also possible that people who prefer these games cannot afford them, since it require the most up-to-date computer skills and more expensive than common games. Without ruling out these and other possibilities, I remain unconvinced about this argument.
Moreover, even if people are more likely to buy the games the author persuaded, it is no indication that they will prefer WV’s games. Maybe, other companies also introduce several games with graphics more vivid than WV’s and price much lower, which attract the players’ eyes, and that result in a decline of the sales of WV’s games.
In sum, this argument is incredible in many respects. To strengthen it the author should provide more information of the survey, and prove that games with lifelike graphsic is useful to enhance the sales of WV’s game
