The following is a memo from the business manager of Valu-Mart stores.
."Over 70 percent of the respondents to a recent survey reported that they are required to take more work home with them from the workplace than they were in the past. Since Valu-Mart has not seen impressive sales in its office-supply departments in the past, we should take advantage of this work-at-home trend by increasing at all Valu-Mart stores the stock of home office machines such as printers, small copy machines, paper shredders, and fax machines. We will also increase stock of office supplies such as paper, pens, and staplers. With these changes, our office-supply departments will become the most profitable component of our stores."

In this memo from the business manager of Valu-Mart stores, the author concludes that the office-supply departments of Vart-Mart would become the most profitable component of their stores if they increase the stock of home office machines and office supplies. To support the conclusions, the author cites the result of a recent survey and the situation of their sales in the past. But I think all of the evident lend little convinced support for the conclusion.
At first, it is dubitable whether it is general that the representation of the survey which reported that people are required to take more work home with them from the workplace than they were in the past. Over 70 percent does not mean that most of people, because it does introduce whether the whole objects of the survey contain all the workers of different occupations. Some work are hardly completed in home, like construction business and carrying trade. All the workers of these occupations would never choose the option that explicates more work home now than before. So the people investigated must be just in some certain area, like IT and selling business, where they can deal with a lot of work in home through World Wide Web. Then they surely need more home office machines such as printers, small copy machines, paper shredders and fax machines and office supplies such as paper, pens, and stapler. Therefore, I think it is too cursory to trust the survey and do the decision.
Secondly, work home do not mean that the worker have to use office machines, even if the survey is credible enough to make it necessary to increase the stock of the home-work merchandise at Valu-Mart stores. Some other kinds of occupations in which worker could finish their work at home such as dress products and cooking, do not need any office machines. So the sales of these machines might not increase with increasing of stock of these machines. Meanwhile, it is too exaggerated to let all the stores increase the stock. Without the accurate investigation, it is too venturesome to make the decision.
Finally, the author concludes that the office-supply departments will become the most profitable component with the former changes. I think the conclusion is too opinionated. Even though these departments could get profit after the changer such as increasing stock the office machines, it does not mean that they would be the most profitable. There might be some other merchandise as their major sale, no matter how much the profit from sales of office machines can increase.
In sum, the conclusion is not convinced that the office-supply departments will be the most profitable component in all Valu-Mart stores with increasing stock of office machine at all sub-stores. To bolster it the author need provide more evidence or more results of survey which should be more general and detailed.
