越来越焦虑。申请了一些学校，觉得自己很没有信心，特别是没有碰到同样申请人类学的同学。有没有同伴呢？

I think there are quite a few people who are either applying or are already in an Anthropology program, but they don't tend to speak up :)

haha, I've read your threads and responses on the forum, yes, I agree with most of what you said re application. Are you ssocio-cultural as well? My application file was complete just before the new year, so I'm very nervous at the moment. But
for our program, top (I mean very top) universities do not tend to interview people, not even over the phone, do they?

Don't be nervous!  Just take it as a life lesson!!

I just asked one school (deadline was Dec. 15) - the grad coordinator said the admissions committee won't meet before Jan. 15.  I'm gessing if we're competitive for top programs, we'll probably hear from them in early or mid February.

My subfield is Archaeology but yes, the Anthropology department don't seem to interview people, not even over the phone - so I guess it's a good thing for us nervous people?

I see. The Dec 15 one must be UC--Berkeley. I called the secretary just now and they don't seem to be at work.

If no interview is arranged, how do they decide whom to serve as TA and whom as RA, just based on TOEFL? I didn't even take the TOEFL as it can be waived. I didn't take the TSE either although I know submit such a score would be better. :loveliness: Bless.

Half of the schools that I applied have earlier deadlines (Dec. 15).  I don't like the west coast that much so I didn't apply to any schools there.

I didn't take the TOEFL either and again, I did quite poorly on the GRE as well.  However I'm not worrying about it as much as I believe I have some good solid research and work experience.

I think almost all PhD students have to serve as TA or RA as some point during their graduate career as part of their fellowship fundings.

Wow, this is pretty bad - I just went online to check the status of my application:

One recommendation letter is still missing - I've been bombarding the professor (from the U.S) with several emails to tell her to hurry up.  Not sure if she can get it in before admissions committee meets...

UPS seems to lose the packet to one school altogether (containing supplemental materials) - but that one's deadline is Jan. 15 so I still have time to arrange things to be sent...

One department loses my recommendation letter - it's most definitly not my fault as I mailed the damn thing with other supplemental materials IN ONE SINGLE PACKET.  How that happened is really beyond me...and listen to this, the deadline for this school has way passed (Dec. 15).  Even though it ain't my fault, I have to bear the brunt of someone's carelessness.

So half of the schools that I've applied to have varying degrees of problems and who knows what will happen with the remaining half...

It's a wonder if I get admitted to any program at all at this point...

C'est la vie. I've encountered such things as well. Phone them up to explain and triple check . In the meantime, keep fingers crossed for the remaining half!
P.S.: As you said they don't tend to interview applicants, I spent the whole evening watching movies rather than preparing for the damn interview ! :) :o

看到大家对人类学的讨论，我有个问题想请教，我也想学人类学，但是不知道要申请的话需要什么资格？我大学学的是政治学与行政学，有两年多工作经验，从事的工作是企业文化。想09年6月考GRE8月托福，10年出国读书。学校排名不重视，主要是有奖学金就好。期待高手指导。
