ISSUE51 "Education will be truly effective only when it is specifically designed to meet the individual needs and interests of each student."


I agree with the viewpoint of the arguer that the education will be truly effective when it could meet the students’ individual needs and interests. But the general education could not be neglected, because the education only designed to meet the interest of individual student still has a lot of shortcomings that can not be overcome.

The education established for individual student will well accepted by students. Contrarily the traditional education always neglects the need of the students, and that will induce the educational failures. As every student has his own personality and advantages, the education for student can not be the same. But most general education is established for all the students not only for someone’s own interest. This education system will neglect the student’s personality, and generally can not inspire students’ interest to study hard and learn more about that. That education may cause a lot of students to lose the interest of study, while personally designed education plan will do to the contrary. Such as a lot of genius are not educated by the public school. The mathematician Terence Tao, who won Fields Medal firstly for Australia, is a prodigy. Instead of sending him to a public school, his family educated him separately. A lot of successful people in different areas are educated by a special plan for them or study by themselves. If they followed the general education, maybe their genius and talent would be destroyed. So the specifically designed education rally can inspire the students and is truly effective.

However the specially designed education also has a lot of flaws, and they also could cause educational failures. So that must be paid more attention to. The specifically designed education mode will cause more educational cost. Furthermore education designed personally always pays too much attention to the interest of the student himself, so that will cause less attention to general courses and knowledge. A lot of students devote too much time in the field they like, such as physics or math, but neglect the general education including laws or ethics. Worst, this education mode will make student with personality flaws, and that will do harm to the society. The general education must be taught without the students’ interest. So the personally designed education mode must be established in the precondition that the general education is well popularized.

Finally, even if the specifically designed education still has shortcomings, the importance it will influence the students and the education system can’t be neglected. Because the designed education for individuals could meet the students’ interest, it could make students be willing to study. At the mean while the shortcomings of the education mode must not be neglected.
