TOPIC: ISSUE185 - "Scandals-whether in politics, academia, or other areas-can be useful. They focus our attention on problems in ways that no speaker or reformer ever could."
WORDS: 568(改后593)          TIME: 00:45:00          DATE: 2008-1-17 14:54:47

Whether scandals are advantageous to our society for it calls massive attention to the problems, which are impossible missions for most speakers or reformers, as the author contends? I fundamentally agree with the assertion that scandals serve to highlight what we haven't noticed in realms of politics, academia, or other areas; however, it unnecessarily brings out the beneficial sequences we anticipate, for the flaws always go with the advantages side by side.

Admittedly, scandals serve as the assistance of the intendance system in public to remind people of probing in existent and neglected problems in society. As is known to all, the intendance system is limited in functioning in every corner of society. Consequently, the society running without effective supervise will come to a sad ending in the last. However, scandals, in some sense, aptly solve these problems. Many examples of "gate-incidence" can illustrate such a point properly. In the realm of politics, water gate never fails to remind us even the responsible president of a democratic nation can commit serious mistakes, which are deleterious to the democrat system. With the help of discovering the scandals, people recognized the mistake committed by President Nixon, and therefore fortunately preserve the political justice.

When we turn to the academic field, abundant cases relevant to this issue come forth in a great deal. There is no difficulty in recalling our memories about fabricating materials, say the famous MIT associate professor. Also, in main land China, considerable amount of professors and students copy other's originated ideas or thesis to complete their research or homework. Were not for the newspapers or television where scandals are discovered and transmitted, provided the current academic system in China, the clean academic environment seems only to be an illusion. Only when scandals bring these impending problems to the vision of public, people will probe in them and figure out where these problems promoted and that what measures should be taken.

However, scandals can also, if not always, bring out unexpected problems to our society. To much emphasize on scandals, especially on those focusing on private trivial affairs, proves to be harmful to the society, for the simple reason that it destroys the credence between people and result in a waste of resources that should have been invested in meaningful issues. For instance, the mass media distributes too much attention on Clinton and Lewinsky's affair. On the other hand, the severe problems such as poverty of African children are neglected on purpose. Given the insufficient resources in society, it is better to allot more attention and resource on the problems at hand, but not those scandals like celebrities are involved in extramarital affairs. Consequently, the only "benefit" such scandals present is no more that celebrities to be make fun of or the recreation activities of mundane residence.

Moreover, the overdependence on scandals to reveal the problems of society can be viewed as another serious problem of society which is worth of more consideration. Why people bother to resort to scandals to discover problems? Why the intendance system can seldom offer us adequate protection. Possibly, the normal administrative system in this society is functionless, especially the legislature body. Taking this into consideration, the existance of continual scandals informs us this society is heading for the collapse point.

To sum up, it is no denying that scandals in nearly all fields can draw people's attention to problems. However, to predict whether these cases contribute to the progress of society or jeopardize it calls for case-by-case examinations. Under no circumstance, overemphasize on scandals can be encouraged.

文章的逻辑很清晰,内容的轻重安排上合适,在句型的使用上很不错比如:Were not for the newspapers or television where scandals are discovered and transmitted……
Given the insufficient resources in society……等等。继续努力

Whether scandals are advantageous to our society for it calls massive attention to the problems(这个从句不错), which are impossible missions for most speakers or reformers, as the author contends? (在读这句话的时候我在找wether的or,但很遗憾,其实我觉得你完全可以把反面也说出来的,比如:or they are the useless social phenomenon which have no value. )I fundamentally(这个词好,埋下伏笔的感觉) agree with the assertion that scandals serve to highlight what we haven't noticed in realms(这个词有复数形式?)  of politics, academia, or other areas; however, it unnecessarily brings out the beneficial sequences we anticipate, for the flaws always go with the advantages side by side(很好的比喻!)
(例子很好,句式也很好。!  这段分析politics )

When we turn to the academic field,(这段开始谈及academic field,逻辑很清楚) abundant cases relevant to this issue come forth in a great deal.
(很有见地,而且国内外对比论证)

However,(开始论及反面一) scandals can also, if not always, bring out unexpected problems to our society. To much emphasize on scandals, especially on those focusing on private trivial affairs, proves to be harmful to the society, for the simple reason that it destroys the
credence between people(individuals and result in a waste of resources that should have been invested in meaningful issues. For instance, the mass media distributes too much attention on Clinton and Lewinsky's affair. On the other hand, the severe problems such as poverty of African children are neglected on purpose. (很好的正反论证手法) Given the insufficient resources in society, it is better to
allot more attention and resource on the problems at hand, but not (on)those scandals like celebrities are involved in extramarital affairs. Consequently, the only "benefit" such scandals present is no more that(than?) celebrities to be make fun of or the recreation activities of mundane residence.

Moreover, (反面二)the overdependence on scandals to reveal the problems of society can be viewed as another serious problem of society which is worth of more consideration. Why people bother to resort to scandals to discover problems? Why the intendance system can seldom offer us adequate protection. Possibly, the normal administrative system in this society is functionless, especially the legislature body. Taking this into consideration, the existance of continual scandals informs us this society is heading for the collapse point.

To sum up, it is no denying that(好句式) scandals in nearly all fields can draw people's attention to problems. However, to predict whether these cases contribute to the progress of society or jeopardize it(好句式) calls for case-by-case examinations. Under no circumstance, overemphasize on scandals can be encouraged.

逻辑很清晰,
句式多样,很多值得学习,
内容例证丰富,运用多种论证方法
语言朴实但非常中肯。
给你个4分吧,继续努力!
