5. A company has announced that it wishes to build a large factory near your community. Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of this new influence on your community. Do you support or oppose the factory? Explain your position.
The recent news has released that a large factory of a company is to be built near our community, which arises heated discussions. Some of the residents support the strategy arguing that it would provide more job opportunities so as to mediate the high unemployment rates; yet opposite voices exist, emphasizing more on environment and the impact on living space. I generally support the establishment of a new factory, and reasons are stated below.
Admittedly things have two respects. Scarcely can a factory, especially one containing chemical and radiation, be established without contaminating the living space of inhabitants’ in the community adversely. A myriad of accidents concerned with radiation and toxic pollution are on record throughout the world. We have seen the explosion of Russian nuclear power plant, the severe radiation that affected generations after generations. Also accidents in Japan caused women unable to be pregnant. However, with the aid of proper protective procedures, such as close observation and frequent checking, we can elude such tragedies.
Consider the positive point in building a factory. A large amount of job opportunities can be created. Then with the increasing aggregation of residents in the area, more convenient public facility will be constructed and hence attracting more investors and entrepreneurs. Not only can we benefit from the above advantages, but also can have access to raise the living standards as a result of booming economy. Children will receive a well-structured education and have a better chance to understand industry and technology. The factory, in turn, will improve our lives by its products and services.
On the other hand, taxes can be raised and increase the income of government, which will be spent on inhabitants and public facility. Moreover, we can reduce side-effects of construction, for instance, the noises, with advanced techniques. Pollution should be diminished via application of environmentally-friendly materials.
To conclude, the advantages of establishing a factory outweigh the negative aspects, which further improvements can mediate and minimize. As far as I am concerned, the factory and the potential economy growth it brings will be beneficial in the long run.
