Who give the art for lasting value? The speaker asserts that the answer is artist, not critic. In my view, I agree that the statement of speaker about the function of artists who create art, and bring art to our life, and give art lasting value. But at the same time, the speaker overlooks the function of the critic, who can help to find the value of art and make some art lasting value because of their critics.

The artists bring the lasting value to people according to their arts. First, they bring people aesthetic enjoyment. They create the beauty by their arts. Meanwhile, they give spirit encourage to people. Such as the Mena Lisa of Da Vinci gives everlasting smile to us and bring aesthetic value to people from one generation to another. The music Nocturne of Chopin expresses the nocturnal loneness and dreamful sentiments to people. All these excellent works give us lasting enjoyment. And it is artists, who give life to the art and make them everlasting.

Secondly, the works has profound and far-lasting historical value and can reflect the real society to people. Many works are created in the special historical period. They are the marriage of the art and history. It is the life experience and artistic genius of artists who create arts and make the art lasting. Consider, for example, The Dream of the Red Chamber, which is considered as the most popular fiction in the history of China. It is created by Xunqin Cao. The writer wrote the creature based on his real life sense and his literary genius. From this fiction, people can get artistic enjoyment as well as understand the history and life during that period.

However, the speaker overlooks the part of the critics. Critics also play a role of finding valuable art. They can excavate the excellent art works, their research of outstanding works help people find good works and enjoy the art better in some aspects. In the contrast, the critics also play a negative part to prevent profound works lasting sometimes. Some critics serve to politics, they would prevent the development and spread if the art works reflects the social conflicts. In addition, the new style and the innovation of art are often objected by critics.  

Taking into the accounts all these factors, we may draw the conclusion that it is artist, who give the art life and value and make art lasting. At the same time, the function of the critics can not be ignored. Critics make us find the value of the art and help art lasting sometimes, although they sometimes prevent the excellent arts lasting sometimes.
