Is learning a solitary activity, or one that requires cooperation among people as the speaker mentions? In my opinion, the speaker unfairly generalizes the characteristics of the learning and gets an incomplete conclusion that students will benefit academically if they of all ages work frequently in groups. I agree this assertion insofar that students of all ages will benefit from the work in groups in their academic in some aspects. However, the speaker overlooks the study is also a solitary activity. Without solitary study, the function of cooperation would decrease largely.
On the one hand, students can learn from others and know the subject from collaborations. The collaboration make them understand the subject better, and make everyone own a definitive learning direction. If someone does not understand the subject clearly, if someone has a wrong learning point and method, they would find these easily according to collaboration. In addition, students can learn the spirits and experiences from others, such as patience, tact, deliberation and so on. Of course, students can get inspiration, vigor, ambition, and enthusiasm from others. The students can gain these characters in their academic study. According to these examples, collaboration plays an important and necessary part in students' academic study.
On the other hand, a student would get nothing from collaborations if he does not have the base knowledge, which comes from solitary study, not mentioned to benefit academically. If student does study by his own and master the base knowledge before attending the discussions, he gets less about the subject. If he does not study alone after the discussions yet, his academy does not have a progress at all. So in order to improve academic level and make full use of collaborations, the attendees should get the base knowledge before the discussions and cooperation, and study alone to resolve the problems which they meets in the cooperation and review the contends after cooperation.
Taking account to the discussions above, it is easy to draw a conclusion that learning is not only a solitary activity but also one that requires collaboration among people. According to solitary study, students can gain base knowledge and review the technology which they have got. At the same time, students of all ages will benefit academically and gain right directions and spirits if they work frequently in groups. In finally analysis, in order to improve the academically efficiently, students should make great effort to combine the solitary study and collaboration with others.
