Should students bring certain skepticism to whatever they study or accept it passively? The author believes that they should question what they are taught. To a large extent, I agree with the author because skepticism is the mother of create ability and it can help to learn things better. However, to doubt everything we learn will bring more trouble than benefit.

On the one hand, skepticism is the mother of create ability. Only by suspecting can we gain new ideas that may overturn the existing system, which may be a great leap towards truth. If Galileo had taken what he learned for granted, he might never find that different things drop at the same speed. Had Wright brothers accepted the conception that men could never fly like a bird, there might never be a plane. It is always skepticism that leads people to a new stage of development because it widens the view of people.

On the other hand, to suspect the things we learn can help us know better of the knowledge we get. Sometimes by thinking over a common phenomenon we can gain a basic principle of the nature. If an example is called for, the fact that the scene of a falling apple taught Newton the law of universal gravitation comes to face at once. Only when we consider one thing with certain skepticism can we get a thorough and deep understanding of it.

So skepticism can both broaden our view of knowledge and help us to reach a new depth of our understanding. It is unimaginable that a society lacks skepticism. The science lever would remain where it was forever, and no innovation would come out. The whole society would be stagnant.

While it is true that skepticism has a promoting effect on the society, too much doubt can also bring some trouble as well. In present world, the information and knowledge is so much that no single person can get a full view of any field. If we tend to doubt everything that comes to our face, especially the truth or some facts which have been proved, it will cost us the whole life and we will have no time to make use of the knowledge we learn. In that case, the skepticism brings us more trouble than benefit.

To sum up, a world without skepticism will lack the impetus of moving forward, while too much skepticism will bring more trouble than benefit. We need to have the sense of doubt in order to widen and deepen our knowledge of the world, but when it comes to something that is unnecessary to have our doubt on, it is nonsense for us to think too much of it.
