How to deal with the bad boss?

I worked extremely hard in my company but I found out I wasn't given the usually annual bonus at the end of the year. My department manager has heard about sth about my plan for studying abroad. Although I tried hard to get along well with him and he is also kind to me in the surface, I see his real face from this event. This makes me very sad and I learnt that there are difficult people to deal with. Has anyone met this kind of "smiling tiger" in your job? And any suggestion to handle with this problem?

Why good bosses are rare? I don't know. We are people of flesh and blood, why can't we become friends to make life easier and enjoyable? Isn't it a tragety for us to alienate from each other? In Confusion!
