How may we define the education? There is a long-term controversy between essentialists and liberals that should we change our educational tradition from designing education to liberal way? The speaker claims that education will be truly effective so far as it meets every student’s need and interest; My view are held involving in the fundamental objective of education and the current society.

Confessedly, I concede the assertion when the objective of the specific education is uncommon people. First of all, take geniuses as a typical example. They have always revealed their talent and potential for outstanding performance in intellectual, artistic, creative and other specific academic realm since childhood. Geniuses which means they can master knowledge much faster and are capable to understand more abstract and complex problems than lay people. Hence, it is necessary to design the specific education for them according to their gift and we believe that it is the most appropriate means to fully develop their talent and potential. Excluding the geniuses, people of unique identities such as royalty both in ancient and modern world who are fated to dominate, also demanded the specific education. In ancient China, every princes had their own teacher named “TaiFu”, to teach them the necessary knowledge about how to become a successful emperor. However, to cultivate a dominator is totally different from common people in many aspects. So they need distinct education of all need in becoming a wise leader with his determination, sound judgment, and farsightedness. In fact, there are many institutions who offer the specific education to those talented people in many countries.

Howsoever, these special people who definitely deserve the specific education. But when it comes to the majority of people, who shared the vast of characters and constituted the foundation of our society. Designing the specific education according to their individually interest is neither available nor necessary. To begin with, common people ,especially the young, have totally no idea about what potential they have, so when you ask them what do you like most, the answers could probably be skating, computer games or something none about academic issues. Without the trains of restraining oneself, by human natures, the mind of laziness and leading a joyful life always control and dominate people’s life. It is not exaggerated that education completely up to the students’ wills may lead to the final failure of education. So it is irrationally to implement such an innovation on education from designed to liberal which educating students on the basis of their interests and needs. Secondly, if education is design to every student’s will, they will observe and analyze the world with narrow foci, which might result in over specialists. More often than not, students in China are required to accomplish the 9-years compulsory including a series of basic course as the foundation of their further research.

What‘s more, the sources of education is limited and even conflicting when it satisfy every students’ needs. After all the funding of education comes from the tax and government, and more tax for the very need of education might make the burden heavier and discontent motions even unsafe situations. In this sense, education may become the hinder and progress of economy, a branch of peace. So, considering the big budget on education and the immediate societal problems such as food shortage, job problems, nature disasters and other conflictions, government would absolutely not sanction the education which meets the needs and interests of each student.

In general, the speaker’s assertion that the education effectiveness only rely on whether the education meets the needs and interests of each students lacks the analyses of the objective of education and reality. Yet to obtain a satisfying effect of education, schools or colleges may open some selective courses to meets the needs of students.
