“the purpose of education should be to provide students with a value system,
a standard, a set of ideas--not to prepare them for a specific job”
  
Why do people undergo education? To prepare themselves for a job, Someone
will say. but that's not the sole purpose of education, not even the most
important one. Through education, people are expected to develop a value
system, a standard, a set of ideas, which is much more significant, for
this is what it takes to be a man.
  
Before talking about the purpose of education, Let's think about a more elementaary
issue-what is the basic character of we human kind? What distinguish we
human from animals? Is it because that we have a job to do, that we have
to go to work seven hours a day, five days a week, and in return, get beautiful
clothes to wear and delicious food to eat? I can't find any difference between
such kind of people and a monkey pressing a button over and over again in
order to get some bananas in certain experiments carried by physiologists
. we human are special not because we can have a job or live a leisurely
life, but because we can think, evaluate, and explore the world surrounding
us. A monkey with enough food will never care about who it is and where
does it come from. We are no better than a monkey if we confine our life
to just working and consuming. After known clear why human is human, let'
s get back to our topics, and the purpose of education is obvious now-to
solve the most elementary problem, to make a man a man.
  
Further more, we should take care that education is not to infuse people
with orthodoxy doctrines, and force them to think exactly as what they are
told. we can not get hale personality in that way, for we still can't analyze
and evaluate things by themselves. Education should help people to build
a value system of their own, not giving them one. Unfortunately, many educators
can't tell the difference. Thinking about the Academy founded by Plato,
we can have a clearer idea about what education is to do. To provide student
with various knowledge, including knowledge for a job, of course. Meanwhile
, education is to encourage and foster people's ability to argue, to retrospect
well-accepted facts and speak out what they think about it.
  
We human have evolved to such an extent that some of us forget what we really
are. We are animals who can think. We are mortals with vulnerable lives,

but with thinking we become unreplaceable and immortal in a sense. We need
education to help us achieve this goal.

我觉得肯定不行呀这样子，有时候想把内容些好可是需要时间的，
我前些天用了1个多小时写了近700字把，可是那时候是找感觉，觉得
写的一般，可是想写好就得花时间，现在我觉得就是先把你想说得表达
出来，尽量用你熟悉的而且最好复杂些的句子，然后在考虑怎么写好，
想想一篇还凑合的文章总比写的好但没完成的文章来得好把，我昨天写了
一次，用了50分钟把，写了480字（可能稍少点，没具体看），但是觉得内容
一般，sigh，issue就是个难题
我想写了10多篇，然后就是看提纲想想怎么写，最好还有。。希望ETS不要太
变态了，

文章开始感觉让人很振奋！！！尤其是比喻用的好，一下子就
把人说服了的感觉。 只是， 我觉得，光说教育如何如何需要
value system好像不够； 毕竟， 找工作也是很重要的；如果能把找工作和education value system 兼顾而谈之，就更饱满了。
学习工作技能也很重要，因为可让我们先填饱肚子；
但是，有一个正确而又有意义的value system 更重要，因为可以让我们找到一生前进的方向。^-^
