TOPIC: ISSUE130 - "How children are socialized today determines the destiny of society. Unfortunately, we have not yet learned how to raise children who can help bring about a better society."
In china, there is old saying goes "The children is the future of the nation". So ,I strongly agree with the author's view that children play an important role in their development and have much influence on the future of our society. As they are growing up, there will become the main force in the construction of the society. It’s the law of nature.

Considering the author's first view that society's destiny depends on how children are socialized. We must admittedly that socialization of children plays significant role in the development of their future. As the world becoming more and more globalization, the society is not an isolated island, people need communicate and collaborate with others. As the result of that, socialization become more and more important. Socialization including how to get along with others, how to respect others, conform to standards of good behavior and so on. Due to those, parents and government should pay more attention on the society of children. May be we all know Ma Jia Jue, who is the student of Yun Nan University in China. He killed three students who are his room-mates, about trifles. From this tragedy we have learned lesson that socialization of children is so vital that we cannot neglect it. Ma Jia Jue is not the main criminal in this case, but also the victim. The main reason is that our society does socializing him when he was young.

Although I think the socialization is important, I also consider that socialization is only one of factor that the children should have, and who ultimately contribute to a better society. There are a lot of other factors, for example, cooperation, confidence, persistence, probity and respect others and so on. Even if it is not the most important factors influence the children. And we all know that  not all socialization's people do positive effect on the society and not all the nonsocialization's people do negative effect on the society. Take Hitler, the main war criminal in the second world war for example. He was a apt historical example to illustrate that the people with well socialization have a negative effect on the whole country, as well as the whole society.

About the author's second view that we have not yet learned how to raise children who can help bring about a better society. First we must define "better society". What's the better society? From my perspective, it's include everyone live a good living; respecting each other, greater cooperation across the cultural and there is on conflicts etc. When children were born, their parents begun to educate them, and then put them to go to school. In the entirely process of education, we always inculcate them with those views. So, I cannot agree with the author's opinion .Because parents usually educate their children protect environment, respect every races, learn to cooperative with other people, except that those does not the characaters of the better society.

From what has been discussed above, I can say that socialization play a significant influence on the children, but not the only factors. And with the development of our society, we can find good way to raise our children.(好多是引用的别人的)

"Doctors have long suspected that secondary infections may keep some patients from healing quickly after severe muscle strain. This hypothesis has now been proved by preliminary results of a study of two groups of patients. The first group of patients, all being treated for muscle injuries by Dr. Newland, a doctor who specializes in sports medicine, took antibiotics regularly throughout their treatment. Their recuperation time was, on average, 40 percent quicker than typically expected. Patients in the second group, all being treated by Dr. Alton, a general physician, were given sugar pills, although the patients believed they were taking antibiotics. Their average recuperation time was not significantly reduced. Therefore, all patients who are diagnosed with muscle strain would be well advised to take antibiotics as part of their treatment."

In this letter, the author do his/her best to prove the hypothesis that secondary infections may keep some patients from healing quickly after sever muscle strain through a study. In this study, there are two groups of patients. one group of patients, took antibiotic regularly throughout their treatment.  And draw a conclusion that their recuperation time was, on average, 40 percent quicker than typically expected. another group, were given sugar pills, although the patients believe they were taking antibiotics. And draw a conclusion that their average recuperation time was not significantly reduced. As the result of that, the author put forward a suggestion that all patients who are diagnosed with muscle strain would be well advised to take antibiotics as part of their treatment. This argument is rests on a series of uncertainly assumptions, and is therefore unpersuasive as it stand.

The first problem of this argument is that we does not know who conducted the study, whether it has enough authoritative. Because we know that there are a lot of nonauthoritative agencies in our society,which also take many studies. Even if the government of the study is legal and credible, it does not illustrate that all the studies it takes are reliable.

There are countless other factors causes this outcome incredible.There are discussed as follows.

Even though the study is credible, there are many other problems cause the result. Above all,we all know that Dr. Newland, a doctor who specializes in sports medicine.  Due to that ,he may be have a more significant advantages in treating muscle strain than Dr. Alton, who is a general physician. About advantages, for example, experience in treating muscle strain etc. In a word, unless the conditions of the two group are all the same except antibiotics, then we cannot draw a firm conclusion that the author puts forward.

We also didn't know what the constitutes of the two group. May be the members of  the first group have a strong body than the second group, so, there is no denying that the recuperation time will faster than the second group in the same condition. And the members of the first group have a slighter muscle strain than that of the second group. There is another problem in author's argument. We can't prove that secondary infection keep patients from healing quickly after sever muscle strain.there are a lot of reasons keep patients from quickly after sever muscle strain, maybe the secondary infections is only one factors,maybe it is not the main reason.

Last, even if what we have discussed above are all reasonable and believable, we also cannot draw a conclusion that all patients who are diagnosed with muscle strain would be well advised to take antibiotics as part of their treatment. May be someone have a sightly muscle strain, and he does not need antibiotics and so on.

All in all, the argument is unconvincing as it is based on faulty study, so that we should reject it
