When it comes to whether the students should take many subjects or just specialize in one, different universities have different viewpoints. Some ask students to take subjects as many as they can, the others require the students just to do well in one. As far as I am concerned, taking classes in many subjects is better.

Some majors need the students to learn more than one subject, such as the students of the teaching major, who will be teacher in the future. They need to learn both the subjects they teach and the subject of Psychology of the students. A teacher who only has the subject knowledge but lacks the ability to deal with students’ Psychological problem is unqualified. Another example is the students of economy, who have to learn mathematics, course of the economy related as well. If they only take one of these subjects, they will lack the comprehensible ability to deal with problems. For instance, if the students of economy only take the economic courses, they may have the ability to deal with economic problems. However, if they encounter a problem which is related to both economy and math, they may fail to overcome it.

On the other hand, students will learn better if they take more subjects. Subjects are all connected to each other, students will broaden their horizon, enlarge their scope, and gain profit from learning other subjects. If students learn well in history, they will better understand the backgrounds of some classic pieces of work. Students of computer will derive success from learning mathematics. Additionally, students majoring in Biology will benefit from learning Chemistry.

Admittedly, specializing in one subject can make students more professional and deeper in the subjects. Nevertheless, learning some other courses will be beneficial for them, because they have comprehensible ability to cope with problems, wider scope and deeper perspectives.
