Everyone is an actor in the movie of history. Similar to the real movie, generally we focus much more attention on the leading role in the history movie. Although we don't deny contribution of the ordinary actors, as a study, I think, it is more practical and reasonable to emphasis on individuals in history.
Admittedly, all key breakthroughs, landmark victories, and revolutionary change in history involve groups of people, whose devotion to create human civilization cannot be effaced. For example, constructions of the Great Wall and the Pyramids are products of people's intelligence and laborious work. Moreover, without millions of nameless people's sacrifices, we could not achieve the victory of the campaign against Fascist. Because of that, nearly all countries build monuments in capital cities in order to memorize the faceless and nameless people who denote their lives to gain liberty for themselves and compatriots.
However, in a study of history, recording everyone's idea and behavior is impossible and unnecessary while putting emphasis on individuals is more practical. First, every historical event held by a group of people must be directed by a leading role that represents other people in the group insisting on one conviction. The leading role's encouragement and behavior in the event derive from not only the ideality of his own but also from his companies' support. History study focusing on such individuals help us obtain a deep understand on both the macroscopic value of the whole society and detailed causes of the event. For example, till now many youngsters are favoring of wearing T-shirts with a bust of Che Guevara on it. By studying Guevara's stories, we got information about how Bolivian struggling for liberty and what was the attitude of the populace against repression at that time, which may reflect a history of South America in a certain period of time.
Second, many resolute decisions, revolutionary ideas, and decisive actions are directed by some great individuals. Without the decision made by Eisenhower that using nuclear weapons to attack the mainland of Japan, the World War II showed no indication to come to an end. Moreover, it was the Winston Churchill's inspiring speech that encouraged the whole Britain to defend for their homeland. Similarly, Adolf Hitler's willpower led Europe into a disaster. The contemporary public masses at that time were merely forced to join such a brutal history. Consequently, researching on these people may help us learn useful experience and avoid duplicating same mistakes.
In conclusion, since it is impossible and impractical to record everyone’s thought and action who involves in a certain period of history, emphasizing more on some individuals is logical and efficient. On the other hand, we cannot deny the contribution of groups of people in many great events and trends in history.
