"In order to improve the quality of instruction at the college and university level, all faculty should be required to spend time working outside the academic world in professions relevant to the courses they teach."

   Should all faculty spend time working outside the academic world in profession relevant to the courses they for the purpose of improving the quality of instruction at college and university? As far as I am concerned, work outside the academic world, in some extent, help they improve the quality of instruction, we can not, however, place too much emphasize on it and there are other ways in which the quality of instruction would be improved.
The knowledge on the book, at college and university level, generally are not practical and latest, but theoretical, even somewhat boring and bland. The education ,If we instruct student mere these knowledge, must have to be ineffective. A recent research founding points out that student can remember less than 20 percent of knowledge a week later.
However, the faculty, if at all, could spend time working outside the academic world, the working about industry, business and political, the great deal of new ,practical and latest knowledge and information might be taken it to course presenting to the students that they teach. And the result is that student could accept and digest these knowledge as fast and benefit as they can. Also, it can help these student employment and meet the requirement of society.
    Consider the computer science, usually set up at college and university. A considerable pure mathematic equation ,deduction of theory, always would frighten students and the result is that they are not able to learn it effectively and ,even abort the computer science program. The faculty or professor, however, have the chance to visit or work in Microsoft corp--the largest software company in the world--interacting with these software giants and talents. Thus, the latest information and development of software or computer industry, interesting stories and characterization of these prominent engineer, and  newest technology of computer science-anti-virus, cyber game of next generation which are under research or development might bright into to instruction in course. Will these students abort this program or course anymore ?
    It 's true that the methods discussed above has certainly taken the innovative impact on the traditional instruction at the college and university. Overemphasis on that, however, will take adverse affect. For one thing, after all, the goals of students are mainly to study the basic and fundamental knowledge. Over-work outside  will inevitably take some harmful ideas and values of society --money, individual interest over others, political intrigues to opponent--into the campus. Put another way, the one's energy and time is finite and too much work outside the academic would ,more than less, take attention and time away from their regular instruction time at college and university. And the result is that the quality of instruction will be degraded. For example, many professor have been busy at starting up their own company outside university. While these behavior bright to students the practical knowledge, it might inevitably reduce their regular time of instruction. Fortunately, relative education division have realized these problems and will tightly regulate these behaviors.
   Moreover ,there are other ways in which, quality of instruction will be improved. Consider the active learning that get student thinking and apply knowledge, and the approach to meet the need and interest of student, which both make education and instruction more effective. Moreover. Improvement of education construction and environment is also the beneficial approach.
   In conclusion, appropriately working outside the academic world in professions relevant to the course should be encouraged in order to improve the quality of instruction. After all, one does not become a good Marashon runner by only reading about the Boston Marashon. Beside it, other ways might be considered to achieve the goal.
