       题目:ISSUE153
"Students should bring a certain skepticism to whatever they study. They should question what they are taught instead of accepting it passively."
450 words

Should students bring a certain skepticism to whatever they study? And should they question what they are taught instead of accepting it passively? In my view, appropriate skepticism is necessary in education and science development, over skepticism, however, is
harmful.

First of all, in education, the basic knowledge theory, what students are taught, is somewhat boring and bland; A new research finding points out that only less than 30 percent of lecture knowledge can be remembered one week later. A passive acceptance, to whatever they study, results in a low effective education and learning. Meanwhile, the skepticism is a active process of learning in which student think and apply the knowledge in their lives. These, who suspect these knowledge, might question why, and apply it to the practice environment in order to valid whether it is true or not. In such a way, a active learning has been formed and these knowledge absorbed effectively.

Moreover, we could not, because of it's limitation, accept the theory without skepticism; The history has taught us that skepticism has greatly contributes the progress society and development of science and technology. If all researchers and scholars view these developed theories as constantly true one-in other word, nothing worth to change and improve, then what they need to is to apply these established theories to resolve the current practical problems rather than to develop new one, which would significant contribute our society. Also, the latest significant progress could not be completed without scientist's skepticism. Look no further than the annual Nobel winner at physics and chemists, have not there been new theories and finding, which are different from, even overturn these old ones? And it’s these innovative and creative idea and theories, which win the Noble rewarding, have lead to  the progress of society and improved our lives.

It's true that skepticism would contributes our learning and researching. Undue skepticism, however, would lead to a harmful consequence.  If we emphasize too much skepticism on what we are taught, we usually become confused and refused to accept them, which, however, has been proved useful and conductive to our resolving the problem. Also, such a undue skepticism even become the excuse that students evade to learn these knowledge in school. In such a way, education would become invalid. In short, we could not refuse everything because of skepticism.

Nor does one acknowledge these contribution, which the scientist and researcher have made with an undue skepticism. In fact, these contribution have beneficial to our development of current theory and achievement .As Newton-the famous physicists-said(I paraphrase): we look further just because we stand on the shoulder of giants. perhaps one would argue that relativity of Albert Ainstein, the famous scientist and Nobel winner, would not developed any existed physical theory. Without such a profound physical knowledge, could the well-known physics develop such a theory?
In conclusion, the skepticism is indispensable in education and science, since it contributes our learning and working. Without the skepticism, the education would become a birdcage in which, students might be like the parrotHowever, we should not lost more important things-- because of our over-skepticism.
