TOPIC: ISSUE208 - "The way people look, dress, and act reveals their attitudes and interests. You can tell much about a society's ideas and values by observing the appearance and behavior of its people."
WORDS: 567
Can we recongnize people's attitudes and interests from how they look, act and dress? And even whether one may judge the value and idea of our society by surveying the behavior and outlooking of citizens? If we do not ananlyse these issues comprehensively from the dialectic perspective, it is impossible for us to provide a final judgment which depends on a case-by-case analysis.
I concede that sometimes we can evaluate the interest and attitude of person just from the manner of this person's looking, dressing and acting. Such things can present some common characters of the people in one realm. For example, the pop start always dress in charming and gorgeous clothings, wherea the scholar in the institutin and professions in the university are regularly in plain dress. It is unimaginable to see a profession dressing like a super start in his daily life. Dressing may more or less reveal the interest and attitude of human beings.
However, we can not rate the intrinsic factors of people only from the feature and dress. First, the look are innate and the inner factor are cultivated, which have not any directly connection between them. There exists a notable case that the appearence of Abraham Lincoln, the sixteenth President of United States, is not handsome but a little ungly. But he never care about that and even usually joke himself in a humour way and successfully led his country through its greatest internal crisis, the Civil War. Secondly, many people surrounding us do not pay any attention to the dress of themselves because of more significant things in their lives such as career. It is easily for us to find some billionaires in Wallstreet enjoy the plain and causual dress in stead of the luxury one. Only judging from the cloth, we may consider them as labors.
Additionally, half of the second claim, which regards the behavior as an effective way of the judgment, is correct. Because tellling about values and ideas is an extremely difficult project. In the first place, we must rerecognize the definition of values of a society. Social values, respected by most people of our society, are intrinsic scales of human beings which transcend the outer factors of people and override the human nature. These values dominate the behavior, attitude, observation, belief and comprehension that can also reflect the values in some extent. The value indetify the object, condition and character considered as the most important things to the member of our society. The value are concreted as material comfort, wealth, competition, individulism and religiosity. Let's bring our discussion to a more present and pratical context, it can be given a proper case in point: In a recenly survey, most voters in United States would be reluctant to elect an atheist as a president, suggesting that believe in God is a value in US. The value can tell members of a society how people should be and human's behaviors do give some clues to find the value and idea in our society.
From the analysis made above, I strongly commit to the nation that judging the value and idea only from the dress and appearance is not possible and believable. In a word, if we want to recognize social values and ideas efficaciously, searching more factors other than these mentioned in the issue may help us to evaluate the value of our society accuratety and completely.
