I strongly disagree with the opinion that any means to attain the worthy goal is justifiable. We must know the goal which is worthy not only,(not only, but also 好像不能这么用) but also understand the program how to achieve the aim which is more important, for reasons that the program which is not intelligent may (be 去掉) cause bad influence or even damage the goal.
Consider the goal of supporting the kids for studying. Few people would claim this idea is not worthy if their parents work hard to earn enough money, but if their parents rob the bank which cause a large damage of (改to)the other people or hurt someone else, would you recognize(consider) that the means is justifiable? But if the children’s keeper feel difficult to support their kids (加to)go to school, they can asked(ask) for the government, require help from the charity or even beg others in the street.
Or consider the goal of surfing the Internet. Many people watching movie, chatting, shopping or receiving News from the Internet which are also good purposes. But others spread the messages which are sexy or violent through the Internet, who could say their aim to surfing the Internet that is well-founded? Even others (program好像不应该用这个词)computer virus and then spread it in the Internet. Clearly, determining the worthiness of such goals requires that we confront moral and legal dilemmas, which we must solve by our own conscience, value system.
On a societal level we determine the worthiness of our goals in much the same way—by weighing competing interests. For instance, counter-strike is a just active which will be uphold by every conscious people, however, if the polices or the soldiers hurt the residents or even beat them to death deliberate in order to finish their task, no conscientious people will pardon them. Or, as the so-called “Star Wars” an example, championed by the Reagan administration. They want defend their Country from the enemies which seems like a justifiable goal. However, firstly, there have no enemies from the outer space and no other Countries can attack US from the outer space; secondly, there are a lot of other fields require funds. So at the end of the Star Wars debacle we were left with rampant gang violence, an AIDS epidemic, and an federal budget deficit. Who will response for such a worthy goal?(例子用得好)
In sum, the speaker begs the question. We could not only exam the goals people want to achieve, but also must think deeply about the process, the cost, we also should determining the worthiness of goals though moral and legal dilemmas, our conscience and value system.
