Several thousand years ago, our hominid ancestor lived their lives by hunting in groups. They cooperated and competed with themselves and the nature as well to continue the history of human beings. Nowadays, stories about cooperation and competition continue. And with the fulfillment of industrialization and civilization, cooperation becomes more and more important than the past.

In business realm, cooperation becomes remarkable because of the severe competition. We all know about the Darwin’s famous theory of Nature Selection. After our life has been prolonged by modern medical technology, our society is able to sustain a larger pool of population. According to Darwinism, extended population scramble limited resources leads to severer competition. For example, when the US import majority of their manufacturing products from China , many native factories saw their fortune being shared; the employees deemed their jobs shipped overseas. In an era of stagnant wages and global competition, opportunity comes to be seen as a zero sum game. However, the truth is, that your dream does not have to come at my expense. If we seen this competition as a kind of cooperation, we may find that by flourishing international business, we are able to save our resources largely and allocate them in a superior way. Although few Americans may have lost their jobs, the majority of citizens are able to consume the world cheapest products. In this regard, cooperation outweighs the competition.

As to the social problems, cooperation stands at a predominant position. Because the problems we faced today is neither Latino or Asian or African or American, but the problems that confront us all. we have a series monumental problems: terrorism, health care crisis, a potentially devastating climate change and so on. We could never solve them unless we solve them together. Take the global warming as an example. We share the same sky, and the common ocean connecting five continents. We could not reduce CO2, unless all the countries on earth limited the release of automobile and the burning of coal. Academic cooperation during the world’s finest universities could greatly help solve such problems.

To sum up, cooperation is a precious bequest that we inherited from our ancestors. We cherish cooperation more than any previous generations because today we could benefit much more from cooperation and we need to cooperate to solve a lot of cutting-edge global problems that our predecessor had never faced.
